Out here in Sicily we get plenty of opportunities to hit some looooooong straightaways and see some top speed. I have a question about a certain vibration. Once I hit about 120mph and climbing, I start to feel a pulsating vibration and hear a hum from what feels like the driveline somewhere. Ive had this problem with the 4.10's as well as the 3.73's I just put in. What do you guys think could be? Anyone have this problem? If it is even the driveline....I was thinking maybe the driveshaft off balance or something to do with the trans itself. I dont know but it sure is P'n me off! :angry4:

That's just gear whine/hum. My 4.10's had that too at about 140 on my old v6. Just gotta realize your spinning the gears at a rate of 3.73 times per 1 tire rotation. So those things are screaming at 120+

Is it vibration or a hum? If it's vibration something tells me the gears were not installed correctly.

Not exactly sure if it's 100% the gears. Mine we're professionally installed as well FYI, it's just the fact that like I said the gears are screaming at that high of speed, every time the wheel rotates the gears would have rotated 3.73 times!

At 120mph an 18" wheel has a rotation speed of 2 revolutions per second (average) so essentially every second your rotating your gears 7 and 1/2 times (3.73 x 2). The ring gear aint exactly small so if the gear lash isn't perfect you're gonna get some humming.

Have you taken the dog bone off? I've heard that if you take it off you can get drive shaft vibrations at higher speeds.

My car magically starts shaking/vibrating at 100mph to the point I don't go any faster for fear of something breaking. Wonder if it's the same problem you have.
