VIN number question

is it true that on the eighth digit of your VIN if its a W u have a romeo built engine and if its an X u have windsor built engine, i need to know cuz im ordering a new flywheel soon and i read somewhere that romeo engines have 6 bolt flywheels and windsor engines have 8 bolt flywheels

Unless you've got a non-stock crank/motor all NPI cars should be 6 bolt.

Tha "X" designation is for a Cobra flywheel with 8 bolts on a Windsor motor.

Wrong. I have never seen a Windsor engine in the 96-98 cars. Thats becasue from the factory it doesnt exist. All 96-98 cars are Romeos...

I have an X in my VIN and it was a romeo, but now its a half and half... LOL

All Modulars were produced in Romeo until 99. 99-mid 01 were Windsors. Mid 01 and up are Romeos.

I'm not saying they don't exist, but 96-98 2Vs should all be 6 bolt.

see, ive always read everywhere that X = Windsor and W = Romero, but im not sure. cant remember what my vin # is either.

and yes, ALL 96-98 4.6L engines are Romero, even the cobra ones, tho they arent even produced on the romero line since they are hand built. (just look at the plaque that they have on the valve covers, its says "Romero Niche Line")
