I'm in the process of putting together a parts list so i can build my own supercharger kit for my 98 GT. Instead of buying a full kit and than start replacing parts, i'm wanting to put it together myself so i only buy parts i need.

Those of you running front mounts, what IC and piping are you using and where is a good place to source it. Also, i want to go straight to a procharger style blow through set-up right off the back. so info on that would be greatly appreciated also.

thanks guys.

-------------

heres the parts list breakdown and their sources for the kit i'm hoping to put together. it originally is from this site, so i can't take credit for finding this stuff. sure some have seen this before

click

from that guide i've deleted a few things and added some i'd prefer to have. my breakdown.

Vortech mounting bracket assembly- $229 from here
Vortech Oil Feed- $22 from here
Vortech Oil Drain- $23 from here
42lbh injectors- $209.95 from here
walbro 255lbh pump- $97 from here
Vortech BPV flange- $18.95 from here
Vortech Mondo BPV- $297.95 from here

total- $897.85

to save a little, and for a performance gain, i plan to not use a powerpipe/boost pipe. instead i'm going to just run a large filter directly on the inlet of the blower. all i need to find is a head unit, blow through maf, and FMIC than i'll be ready to start ordering parts.

all my piping i used for my front mount with a t trim was custom made, the piping in the kits are really thin walls. i was using a cxracing intercooler but lost 4.5-5psi going through it. i would prolly look at treadstone performance for a intercooler, never used them yet but they seem pretty good, i kind of want to get the tr12 with a 4.5" core.

i like their TRV185. its 3.5" compared to the 4.5" but for my application i don't really need a huge intercooler and i prefer vertical flow intercoolers.

thats not stealing the thread. i need to know these things also. a last resort i've thought of was to get everything installed except the intercooler and piping. and just bring in the intercooler when the car gets tuned and have the tuner install/build the discharge side as well as select the proper blow through maf.

if i can do it myself, that would be better. save a lot on labor.

i prefer prochargers, actually. but if i told you how much i was piecing together this NEW vortech kit you would understand.

so far, my spread sheet reads just under $1000. and the only things not on it are the head unit itself, maf sensor, and fmic set-up.

everything else including fuel is counted for. i can get a new s-trim head unit for around $1800 so that'll be $2800 + fmic/maf/tune for a brand new intercooled kit. or if i buy a used head unit i can probably get it all together and tuned for less than $2k. i'll most likely go new, unless i find a slightly used t-trim for the right price.

question?HOW much boost you going to run.if not over 10lbs and your looking to cool discarge temp at thr track use a small shot of nitrous .I have done it before with great results.just make shure you have a good fuel system and use a wet kit for the extra fuel.I set my btm on 3 for spray and 1 without spray.just remember you have stock 302 block so take it slow on nitrous jets untill you get the result you like.then after you split the block you can put your 351.I dont have my 302 block studed because head gaskets or cheap compared to block if you get to much pressure in block.ok blast away ,im shure there will be people freak out when they read this but it works for me.all that on fact. tune.PARTS LIST LAST 2 YEARS.#5 fact piston(to much timing)2 sets of heads gaskets.1 clutch, replacing rear-end now with explorer 31 spline carrier t-lock and axels.Im shure lots to come

seems like you've got a nice kit build list, if you've got to get 98 fuel rails then you can get them dirt cheap. i'd give you my yellow top injectors for free :) lol

as for the kit you can't buy a kit for that defiantly but you also have to remember that sometimes you get what you pay for lol so be careful. as for the 255lph go with a ford focus svt pump it's a green top and you just remove the actually pump out of it and it's a 255lph pump and you can get them for like 90 bucks so save yourself some money there.

thanks guys. PM me about those rails. MikeF, i have a nPI 4.6l, not 5.0l. but i do appreciate the advice anyways. i'm lookin for only 8-10psi. i live in Louisiana where it's constantly 80-95* outside and 80%+ humidity all the time. every non intercooled car i know has sent the engine to an early grave down here, some on conservative set-ups and less than 400rwhp. with our heat and humidity it takes an idiot not to use an intercooler. so thats why i'm wanting one.

i'm being very careful. i believe in "you get what you pay for" but i also know about price mark ups and how to avoid them. I'm not looking for cheap parts. i'm looking for quality parts that haven't been market up by 2-3 different middle men.

this is how the pricing works.

Part is made for x amount. manufacturer than marks up before sale for profit. 2nd party buys all the individual parts, marks up again for their profit than assembles the parts as a "kit". They then mark up the price because they did a service in assembling the kit. The 3rd party store than buys the kits, marks up the price again for their profit before selling to the public.

i'm getting what i paid for, and paying for only what i get.

thanks. it is a little cheaper from JD performance. sais -1997. but it shouldn't matter that mine is a 98? as i'll be looking for 96-97 rails.

that also brings the total so far to below $900. thanks. i moved around some of my posts to include the parts list in my OP.
