welding fumes and resperators?

Honestly I am amazed that they are not more common the more I thought about it.. There is no way to know what acid/oil baths that material went through in processing, had what ever spilled on it in storage that is burning off as you weld it. I mean I know I have never seen anyone that wore a resperator while welding but I am really surprised that it almost isn't as suggested as a helmet.

as a follow-up I have too say that the new helmet/respiratory combo is freakin awesome! Tried it out today and with the larger window and no fumes I swear my welds even looked better, at least I didn't have any issues this time.... Should have done this from the start.... Hell yes its expensive but if I showed you my hospital bills for the 4 stays I suspect from this its a drop in the bucket.
