So I bought this 94 5.0 a week or two back. It has a bbk off road H pipe, and what I thought was a 40 Flowmaster with dumps until I actually seen the thrush symbol underneath , and looked up thrush welded (looks like they copied FM) . I’m guessing they sound almost the same, had me fooled for a few. What’s your guys thoughts? Thinking about spintech 9000’s.

Flowmaster’s patent expired some time back and there are dozens of copies now.

Spintech has a unique sound but doesn’t get used quite as much as it used to.

In my opinion (I will fight everyone on this) MAC Flowpath had the best sound on pushrod engines but that company is extinct.

Honestly? What do you want your car to sound like??

As of now, I’m happy with these. I have a spintech 9000 on my Chevy truck…I’ll check out old clips of those Mac flowpath thou.

My buddy has Spintechs on his 5.3 Silverado and it sounds good. I don't know what they sound like on a 302.

What don't you like about the current setup?

I like the sound, I don’t like the major drone at hwy speeds inside the cab. But with dumps, and no cats… I can’t wish for to much lol.

My son has SLP loudmouths on his 351 F250 and they sound fantastic. This is after having cherrybomb M80's(sounded great too), flowmaster knock off flowtech. The SLP are straight tru mufflers but do not sound like any thing like it.

This is a good reminder that, no matter what you do, it's gonna be loud inside. Sound reverberating between pavement and the bottom of the car will be ever-present unless you change the exhaust exits.

I had a '98 GT for a daily for a while and basically built the same exhaust for that as I did for my car but I rotated the turn-downs at a 45 in hopes to midigate some drone but I think any miniscule difference it made was mostly placebo effect.

Youtube is a great to hear different exhaust brands on a similar platform. I still say a complete flowmaster exhaust reins on a pushrod foxbody.

Was it bbk or hooker mufflers the sound could be changed the tone
That's probably going to be my next exhaust system
I usually stand by flowmaster as stated it's lost its identity
It's not the same
My friend just got a new cat back 44 and it's off

Im a fan of setting up the exhaust to were the mufflers can easily be swapped when I want something new. I finally settled with "the authentic race car sound" of no mufflers. I like it loud!

I had the Thrush welded on my Cobra, and swapped them out for real 40 series Flows. The flows are quieter! After I investigated the baffles in the Thrush are not very tight fitting so a lot of exhaust gas just goes between the baffle and case rather than around the baffle. At any rate they sounded meaner than the real Flows.

Now that same pair of Thrush welded lives in a pypes 2.5 kit behind an off road x-pipe on my stock GT where they sound very classic/mellow with minimal drone. Could be the baffled pypes tips that mellows it out :)

Note: Pypes systems fit horribly.
