Sell the Stang for Neon mod money!!!

lol naw man. the mustang is gonna get "restored" and then get modded for like street/strip duty. Caged and Turboed

but thats after I get out of college so i got a year and a 1/2 or 2 years to go. So untill then i'm gonna tinker a little but nothing major to this car. but the way i look at it is... intake and exaust are gonna help out in the mpg situation more than hp and the cams are just a tiny bit more than the stock cams so it will put till like 6500 with out flat lining and the tuned computer to make it run right with the mods and not run rich. other than that all its getting is just some rims and tires since the steelies are rusty lol. and some 20% or something tint b/c the sun is killing my eyes lol. But its a pretty nice car in good shape. Just a little rust here and there b/c of where it came from.

they were like ~400 bucks for a set of cranes 12's or something. I want just the minor cams like 12,14,16 or whatever. So and upgraded ECU... what does that do "I know its another Control unit but..." ... do you tell them what you put in it so it runs right?, and what is an AFC?
no you dont do custom tunes on a neon without a stand alone fuel management unit. It is a pretuned ecu, just basic things, then you use and AFC (air fuel controller) to fine tune the air/fuel ratio. You have no say in whats in the tune on the ECU. Knock yourself out bro..but after all that stuff you are still gonna be in Npi range.

ahhh cool. I'll look into it.

I found a header i'm thinking about ... its a stainless still shorty kinda like an equal length header and its around 100 bucks. I'm thinking i can get some of that heat wrap to kill the heat in there but people are saying on neons.org that is why my mpg is so low... but i did tick off 27 mpg in that 150 miles mixed driving.

holy shart :crying: thats pricey. So i saw on ebay that they are s-afc's and they also can do v-afc's? is that for vacuum? I don't have a clue... but with this you can get a nice 14.7:1 A/F ratio while cruising and probably tick off some majorly nice mpg. But i'm kinda clueless... this only messes with the fuel right? It has nothing to do with the timing. Damn J.R. you know something about everything. You just got more props in my book +1 and same goes to you Dave. I had no clue you used to mess with these things. :TY:

The V-AFC is for Honda's, it is either a standalone Vtech controller, or a SAFC that incorporates a Vtech controller, I'm not sure.

On DSM trader, you can pick up a SAFC III (third gen) with a pocket logger and everything for like 2-3 hundred bucks.

hmmm don't know much about all that tuning stuff lol. I've never even tuned my mustang. All the cars i've ever tuned used a flat head screw driver, socket set, and some trial and error lol.

It's the same, except you sit on your butt and push buttons and use trial and error. That's why they use the pocket logger though, to show the fruits of their labor, so to speak.

ahhh i got ya know. the logger saves what happened durring the run and you can go back and tweak. Thats pretty nice. wow to think these neons are so much different than mustangs in the tuning department lol. shoot lol.

Well its pretty fun messing with something different you know. I never had a 4 cylender exept in a mustang and it was hopeless. but this little bugger gets up and goes pretty good and really good after 4k :coolsmiley: lol, found out they are very light too. If i could get this exaust thing worked out i can get something done lol :nonono: i'm haveing problems in my mind b/c the stock manifold is cracked and its got a pretty big exaust leak going on. anyway, the stock mani has the o2 at the collector area and most the aftermarket headers have them in one of the runners. is this a problem? i was wondering b/c its just reading that runner and not the whole exaust ya know. i know i can get the bung and put it at the collector but i don't want to have to cut up some nice looking stainless headers. What you guys think?

It's ideal to have it in the collector, but in reality, I don't think you'll notice a difference with it in a runner, unless one cylinder randomly goes rich or lean.

I had a passetter header just like that one, and I was fine... Its not like you will be pushing 500 Hp with it.

Buying a car soley for the purpose of a daily driver and then modding it all to hell seems pointless. Neon without turbo= throw away car. Once its broke, you throw it away.

Yep, I wouldn't replace the trans if it broke, let alone just for the fun of it.

well you guys aren't like me then lol. Anyway the mustang is in storage for a couple years so these no other car to drive. I think i'm getting the parts car for like 300 and it has a working 5 speed in it. but i don't see a couple things mean it is modded all to hell?

I wouldn't mod a car like that at all, period. Except to put a deck in it. I would drive till the wheels fell off, and leave it on the side of the road. I've done that, several times.
