Hello guys, ive been going back in forth for months now trying to figure out what gauges i want to install. my engine is completely stock, but the car is a project so its a little beat up. so i figure that installing a couple gauges would help me out while at the same time finish up my interior... and opinions on what ones i should get? what are some good ones to start with. im getting the pod that replaces the light so im only looking for 2 for now. once i rebuild my engine then ill add a couple more. but thats besides the point. I NEED HELP!

if you do not want to end up with a car with 12 different gauge pods all around you, and want the ability to be able to customize and expand them then look at PLX designes multi-gauge displays. I installed 3 of them last year and have them hooked up to the water/oil temp, air-to-fuel, and oil and fuel pressure and vac. These are more expensive them the basic gauges most people use but they look killer even in a basic display format not to mention a custom one you can design. you can see them half way down this page as well as the build pics of the pods I made for them.

Depends on budget. I'd look into a pair of Autometer water temp and oil pressure gauges. Kind of hard to help when we don't know how much you want to spend, you could get away with some $30 gauges or you could go big and get some $200 each gauges. Lot of options out there

Full sweep electric oil pressure, fuel pressure, and wideband are my suggestions without a budgetary number. :)

Seeing that there's a whole bunch of threads with "my car gets up to "X" letter on the stock water temp gauge I'd make that a priority over fuel press.

As long as its in the normal range i wouldnt worry about it. But thats just me.... more scared of leaning out than over heating. :) personally....

That is why I went with PLX gauges, other then the cool-factor. You can set upper/lower limits on each sensor so that you can add as many modules to the screen as you want(ok 16 is the limit I think) and even if I am watching my water temp, if the fuel pressure drops it will alarm and let me know.

With a lot of mods I would agree, my car is S/Ced and I have the fuel pressure and Wideband gauge. But with a near stock car I'd be more worried about my car over heating which seems to be more common than a fuel pump going out while driving the car.

The stock gauges? the fuel and voltage gauges are the only accurate ones in there. I was able to see my car on the dyno in phoenix that it was hot enough that the cpu was pulling timing out to try and cool it, the temp gauge as only half way up.

That's what I mean, the temp gauge isnt very accurate. I keep reading threads with people asking "where does your water temp gauge read normally" and you get a bunch of different responses even if they're in similar heat ranges

yea some people just don't undertand what it will take for the temp gauge to go into the red. It is a much much more secure feeling to have real-time data on whats up in the motor....

Or just get an aeroforce interceptor gauge.

Haven't heard of it? Google it.

It plugs into your pcm and reads all kinds of info like water temp, fuel pressure, oil pressure, inlet air temps, boost, vacuum hg's, even has warning lights and crap. Look into it!!

Also they read different things on different cars, depending on what your pcm picks up.
