Does anyone know the gear in my 96 gt? Its stock, I do know that but what is the stock gear. I have a buddy that works at a ford dealership and he said there would be a metal tag on 1 of the cover bolts. Ichecked it an the only thing that was close to being a gear was 2:73. Is this correct? I didnt think that year would have that high of a gear. Thanks

That is actually a real low gear.

2.73's,3.08's and 3.27's were some of the most common gears FORD put in the 94-98.

i believe it was the drop tops that got the 273's and the others had 327's

Yeah. I think so too.
wow we agree on 2 things in 2 different threads ... this is a record

Modular minds think alike, I guess..lol

now only if you didnt have a drop top

Believe me, I wish I had a coupe. I keep the top up and pretend it's one..lol

I had 2.73's but have heard of 3.08 and 3.27...

Look and see if the tag is still on the rear differential, it is stamped with the gear in it.

or you could jack it up and spin the wheel one full rotation and count how many times the driveshaft turns. Just mark it with chalk or something.

If the tag your talking about is a metel tag held on by one of the bolts then i checked it and the only thing that looked like a gear # was 2L73. there were more nums. and letters but none was close to a gear unless its like a code for a gear #. Oh and there is a white tag around the rearend housing but i didnt check it closely.
