I think everyone on here knows I am a big fan of AFR.

The AFR 165 is the best head on the market for a small block 302, no question.

The twisted wedge heads have a canted valve which is not the greatest angle and those heads are very well known to tear up the guides.

AFR 165's make more power then a tw head out of the box with a smaller valve and the AFR 165 head has a thicker deck and uses a standard length pushrods...

The 165's work great with forced induction also.

My buddy made 560 RWHP with an S-trim (2.95 pulley), GT40 tubular intake, AFR 165's, and an Anderson B31 cam. :thumb:

I would say trickflow TW because they have alot more port potential than AFR that way if you ever want to upgrade you can just have them ported and be able to out flow AFR 185's easy. Plus they are about 150 cheaper than AFR's

There are plenty people making good power with AFR's too.

Either one Trickflow or AFR is good you can't go wrong either way. :thumb:

I have a deal for you. I've got a set of AFR 165 heads out of box stock with a custom cam by Jay Allen. The heads have the double springed valve springs on them that Jay suggested for the cam. You DO NOT have to cut your pistons for this cam.

With a Performer intake and 70mm TB my car made 328rwhp and 337rwtq.

I will sell the heads with valve springs still on, cam, and pushrods for $1000 plus shipping.

Oh dear god not another one of these...

I say the TFS heads only because you won't have to buy a whole new set of heads when you eventually want to go bigger. They have plenty of meat on them for portwork. Right out of the box they're somewhere between a AFR 165 and 185 in performance. They'll work with a stock bottom end with the TFS1 cam.

But honestly dude, do some searching around here and the corral. The other 100 billion threads on this subject have all the info you'd ever need.
