So after reading the other post about the blinking light behind the cluster, so i figured i ask about mine to.

Behind my gauge cluster. Who ever put it in taped power from the headlight switch.

Is it realy? I know that the first owner of the car was a corporation. They used it for sales. I didnt think you could use one of them in california becuse i check into that snapshot from progressive.

was anything hooked up to the com port or just the power? Looks like there isn't anything more to it other then constant, switched, ground.

nothin. Just the power it is always light up!

Hrm... I wish you were on this half of the country... I'd tap into that com port and see if it's dumping any fun data straight to serial... although, the 'I/O' side, that a 5 or 10 pin molex plug I spy? Is there a cable dangling there somewhere that taps into your ECU or somesuch? At a worst case, you could likely pop the plastic open and track down an identifier for the board inside.

It's definitely this. I found a similar device. In the step 2 picture. It looks like what you have. According to the instructions there might be another box too.

if it was a sales-car before hand, it wouldnt surprise me if it was a tracking device.... especially in a mustang.
