Just bought a Vortech v2sq supercharged 98 GT the other day and i am wanting to change the oil this weekend. The motor has 100k on it and i was wondering what would be the best oil to go with. I planned on using a motorcraft oil filter also. TIA

definately go synthetic.
take your pick royal purple, amsoil, mobile 1.
If you have no leaks now you won't have any with the synthetic. If you do have leaks they'll get worse due to the lower viscosity.

Your owners manual would tell you what weight oils to use. In 5.0's 5 or 10 weight can be used depending on weather conditions. Cold climates 5w30 is good and warmer 10w30 but either one would work in all climates, motocraft oil back then was straight dino and now syn blend.

I have a '96 Cobra, the original owner put in 5W-30 Mobil 1 after engine break-in and I have used this weight ever since.
My Vortech V2 has been on the engine since 2006 and have about 20k on the engine with this combo. I would say stick with 5w oil; the modular engines have very small oil passages and I would think a 10 weight on startup could lead to long term issues down the road, that's my opinion. It does run good still with approximately 175k and the engine does not burn any oil as wytstang can attest when I drive over to my Aunt's house which is across the street from him :)

This is true and a sexy sounding exhaust note to go with it.

I would say stay with the 5W30. The 5W indicates the weight of the oil when cold so the oil can transfer to the engine much faster. Don't punch the loud pedal till the engine has spent a few minutes at operating temp.
