bought a pair of cylinders for my convertible.. went to raise and lower and noticed raised slow..thought it just needed the air bled.. then I saw it- the top of cylinder where rod is came completely apart! apparently the 'c' inside clip came out so seal poped out..needless to say hydro fluid everywhere back there by motor and inside wells-ugg. I called AM- they are sending me another but what a hassle. Now I got to box and return bad one. So far the other new one seems to be ok. wondering how that could happen? almost afraid to use new ones now.. my old are ok as All I needed was a line but thought long as in there spend the $ on new cylinders.

Our mustang convertible mechanic systems are actually good functioning wise but down right trash component quality wise. In my opinion if you are pulling the interior to replace components, wait untill you have all problematic failing component replacements to install. I think you are off to a good start by having the cylinders on standby for when they fail, but go ahead and start collecting new hoses and fittings as well, cause it just a matter of time when they fail.

FYI, they are the same cylinders that you can get on Amazon from multiple vendors for much much cheaper. I've had both in hand and all the markings and such are identical. I think i've seen them as low as $50 for the pair. Really only one overseas vendor is making these and they are sold under so many brands.

They are junk quality so hit or miss how long they last. It's just a little easier to stomach when you buy them for $30 each on Amazon. Almost a throw-away price. I think AM and LMR sell them for much much more.

The cylinders are also a slightly larger diameter than original. This means more fluid is required to extend the cylinder a linear unit. As a result, the lift speed is slower with aftermarket cylinders compared to originals.

Same for the pump as well. Amazon has the same as the other Mustang parts vendors for much much cheaper.
