it is a 96 GT automatic. I have 4:10's MAC LT's and full exhaust w/ flowmasters H or X pipe(have decided) then the fenderwell cai. i have pi cams in the mail and hopefully the intake soon. with those the pi parts on, what kind of 1/4 mile could i run? whats should i do after the intake, and are the cams worth the effort? do you think i could do the cams?? i just finished the LT's and dont know how to do cams, is this over my head? (LOL I DIDNT KNOW HOW TO DROP THE K member EITHER BUT DID)

Your destined to hit mid 14s to low14s. get some badass hook, and get into your tranny some (Jmod, Shift kit) to get you rollin harder. also it might be time to purchase a tuner.

I personally wouldnt try cams without a good knowledge of how the engine works. theres alot of stuff that could go wrong and take out your engine. Just my2 cents.

All I can say is stall converter! Just don't waste any money on a 2600-3000 stall. I have a 3600 DirtyDog converter and absolutely love it!

I was intimidated to do my cams as well, but with the correct tools, preparation, and another person to help it wasn't bad. 96BlueMoon and I did my cams and springs a few weeks ago. It was time consuming, but not that bad to do. I will say that the biggest PITA was reinstalling the valve spring keepers and .060 Crower offset retainers. The new springs had some serious seat pressure so we actually ended up putting a piece of pipe over a breaker bar connected to the OTC spring compressor and then holding it back under my armpit while I used both of my hands to get the keepers back in. It was definitely nice to have a break in between cylinders while the other person removed the spark plug and pressurized the next cylinder. I DO NOT reccommend doing it alone unless you have an extra pair of hands.

Go with the shift kit and converter, you'll be happy with that. How much did you get your PI cams for?

An Electronic shift kit, doesn't do anything but boost line pressure acrossed the board, in every gear, and every situation. Get a real shift kit, or just swap in a valvebody.

Next, get the intake on, see how that goes for you, then slide in the cams.

yeah dude, unbolting the gears is ALOT easier than taking off the front cover and everything along with it.

The cam swap is pretty easy really. The hard part/time consumin part is swapping springs. If all you are doing is the cams it's an unbolt the old cams, line up the keyway on the new cams with the timing gears, put the caps back on and then torque everything back to spec, put everything back together and you're done. It is a two man job, so don't even attempt it without a second man. Once the cam gears are off of the old cams, the tensioners are going to tighten and make them a b**** to get on the new ones. You'll need the second person to hold up on the cam gears so minimal tensioning occurs while you lube up and drop in the new cams. Once the cam and gear line up a little bit, smack it home with a big plastic hammer and you're done. I used to be intimidated by cam swaps, but there really isn't that much to it for two people and a few hours.

ok, i have the helper thing figured out. he said he would help me tackle the cams. I am planning on doing the pi cams, pi intake and udp's all at once since everything will be apart (would it be worth it to upgrade to a 75mm TB and better plenum) while im at it. I think after this swap, i will be done with performance parts (engine wise) and i will probaly move onto the shift kit. ony other ideas while everything is apart?

No, you'll be compounding chages that are (hopefully) well thought out and specific to the car. It's not a more is better kind of situation, you'll be compounding pressure by electonically bumping it acrossed the board, then slectively at shift points, etc, in the VB.

If you have a tuner, just bump it for now, and return it to stock later. But I mean, the Jmod is fairly easy, if not straightforward exactly, various kit's exist from 75 to 125, and there's tons of VB kits out there for a straight swap. The way to change it is the same as always, it's a hydraulic system, the way to fix it is in the hydraulics, and not just because I sell them, lol.
