Ok guys, got my new tranny (Cobra T-5) started tearing into the old one to prepare to remove it... wonder 2 things, first what type of tranny fluid do i need to put in the T-5? anyting special? somebody told me Mercon III Auto tranny fluid. is that right? anything special i can add to it to keep it in good running order? I'm running by the parts store today, so let me know!
Also, as far as the rear main seal... how easy is this to replace? i was going to go ahead and do it while i was down there, and the flywheel and tranny and all were off. Do I need anything special to remove it, or re-install the new one? any help you guys can give me would be great... I'm hoping to get the stuff i need today, and then put the new tranny in on Saturday.

You can pry out the rear main with a screwdriver if you're careful. You can also drill a small screw into it and use that to pull it out. Just be careful and DON'T scratch the crank.

To reinstall it, just push it in evenly all the way around with your hands, then use a small hammer and a 1/4" extension and TAP it in a little bit at a time all the way around.

Mercon is fine.

*edit* - you might as well change your pilot bearing while you're in there.

Paul.

Check the main bearing retainer on the front of your transmission (it's the collar that your TOB rides on) and make sure it doesn't have any galling or damage.

Already checked it... i WAS going to replace it with the aftermarket Steel one, but it turns out, whoever rebuilt it, added the Steel one to the tranny, so it's brand new already.
