Well I have 5k for my motor. My long term plan is a dart 331 with a turbo. So with 5k what would you do to get closer to the finish?
Turbo and have fun while building motor?
Top end?
Or bottom end?
FYI 600hp on motor is my end goal.

I'd buy the dart block.. but that's just because I know I'd never get the whole thing built if I put the turbo on first.

SUPERCHARGER.

you'll spend years getting "ready" for boost.
just blow it and enjoy the car.

I'd go blower for now and have fun with it like Dalamar said. I'd find a used Vortech, slap it on for now and order the dart block and piece it together little by little. If I was going with a Dart I would go a minimum of 347 though, no reason not to.

Yep. Jeff is 100% right. Just buy a blower. Everybody wants a turbo because they're super cool awesome neato... but a blower kit is cheap, reliable, easy to install, and will make for big smiles.

Well I did find a 393 close to where I live and guy told me that it made right at 420hp the only thing is a lifter hold down broke and tore up the lifter and cam and one valve on the heads that all what he said.

Jeff is right. There is much more to "getting ready for boost" than building an engine. Suspension, drivetrain, complete fuel system etc

In my case, I've been throwing handfuls of money at a rusty engine block I bought since 2010 and maybe this will show you how fast $5k will disappear:

Eagle/JE rotating assembly: $1500
Machine work and labor to assemble shortblock: $1500
HCI: $1500
Valvetrain: $600
Bare SVO engine block: $500
Oil pan/pick-up/dipstick: $300
Balancer: $200....

Do you see where this is going? That doesn't even get it off the engine stand, I haven't even gotten to injectors, mass air meter, throttle body, new cold air intake, fuel rails, external fuel pressure regulator... The list goes on and on and on.... I just bought an IRS and that is gonna soak up at least another $2k.. Oh, and I need new tires $800+ sheesh

Well done got the supspenion and chassis done. I know I still have to do drivetrain but I'll do that after it goes. Now I'm not wanting to do the whole motor at once I know with 5g's I can either do bottom, top, or turbo. That's where I'm going with thread is to see where would be the best to start. What ever I do do I'll be running it cause to tell you the truth I can't go years without driving my car.
My first thought when I started to look at what I want to do is build/get one built dart 331 and run the h/c/I I have now then just slowly adding to that. That would take up all the money that way but really wouldn't see much gains with parts I have now. It's easier for me to spend 1000 here and there than to save up 5. But since ive posted this on forums most are saying run turbo(btw it comes with all fuel upgrade that I will ever need) on stock motor have fun while building the "good" motor over time.
