whats the difference between the GT and COBRA oil filter? i know the size(because the cobra has an oil cooler so the filter is about an 1 1/2inches smaller)but is that the only thing?

yeah thats what i thought.
so my cars at 185,xxx miles and ive been running 10w-40 or 15w-50 mobil1 in it since it hit 170,xxx cause thats what a ford master tech(buddy of mine) told me he started running in his 94 GT with over 200,xxx on the clock. he says he switched to 15-50 at about 170K

What are the benefits of switching to 15W-50? Can it cause damage to gaskets/seals because of too much viscosity/oil pressure? I also have just over 170 on the clock, and don't know too much about this kind of thing.

Sorry about jacking the thread.

well the way he explained it to me was the bearings begin to have excessive play in them and the thicker oil gets in there to make up for the extra play. i think im gonna use 10w-40 though

there is no point to using a thicker oil. My engine had 159k on the clock, and it still ran on 5w30.

the only thing that a thick viscosity oil will do, is increase the pressure on your oil pump driveshaft, and trick your oil pressure sensor to show a higher oil pressure.

I know the GTs run an FL1A, Do the cobras run the FL820s I'm guessing?

Cobra takes Motorcraft FL300.
I see, learn something new everyday lol. I have honestly never done an oil change requiring a FL300 filter before...

IIRC, the FL820 is the 4.6l filter, equivalent to a PZ42 or a 4651. Which wont fit on a 5.0.
You need the FL300 like Ryan posted, equivalent to a PZ-34, or 4670.

(Can you tell i've changed alot of oil?)
