so im ordering gears tuesday got a 94 gt auto and dont know which ones to go with my gears are at 2.73 stock ya pretty shi*ty
its either 3.55 3.73 or 4.10s so what would be the best set of gears and i heard alot of people are tellin me 4.10s ruin top speed and gas mileage but gas is not really a problem but top speed is a problem but is there a way to over come that? for example im at probally 220 rwhp so top speed would be at 100 110 correct me if im wrong but would it
still kill my top speed if i was running say 350 rwhp?

I've never heard of hp really being killed in automatic with 4.10's. 3.55's are too small for an auto IMO. I have 3.73s and I love it, really one of the best mods for the car. If you don't do alot of highway driving, I'd go for the 4.10s.

I never experienced an issue with top end speed when I had 4:10's. Engine just spins higher at the top with the gears. You should still be good for 135+ mph. Are you certain you have 2:73's? Check the axle code on the door jam. 3:27's were pretty common on the 94 'vert.

Also HP does not determine top speed, it will just get you there faster

Only way to add more top speed with same gear is to run higher RPM

The way gears work is this. The numerically higher the ratio (ie. 3.73:1, 4.10:1) the more acceleration you'll have but the less top speed. I have two sn95's. Both 5-speed manuals. One has 3.73:1 gears and the other has 4.10:1 gears. With the same mods the car with 4.10's should accelerate faster then the one with 3.73's. My car with 3.73:1 gears 4th gear out about 140 mph. The car with 4.10:1 gears tops out 4th gear about 125 mph. Roughly.

It really depends on how you plan on using the car and what your goal is for it. If it's a basic street driven cruiser that spends a bit of time on the interstate I'd go with the 3.73:1 gears. If it's a lot of city driving or you plan on a bit of racing I'd go with the 4.10:1 gears.

Just my $.02

since it is a automatic go with the 4.10s. if you find that it is too steep of a gear then when its time to get new tires go with something that is 28" tall. that will make the gears perform as if they were 3.73s. this is all under the assumption that the tires on the car are currently the stock 26" tall of course. :)

i have 3.73's with a t5 tranny..I like them but sometimes I wish I had 4.10's...but for as much highway driving i do i think 4.10's would be too much.

Mines a daily and i find 3:73s too much at times, but then we are paying almost $10 a gallon here and mine seems to doing more gallons per mile than miles per gallon. :)
