I definetly been out of the ford game for a while and used to the lsx scene. I am hard pressed to find some 550-650rwhp setups. I really wanna get back into a sn95 cuz I LOVE the body style and really would like to keep it ford in a ford (i doubt mustang week at myb and ford carlisle) would like seeing a lsx in a mustang haha, but as far as getting that power it almost seems like a legitimate option right now. I am looking and put in an offer for a 94 GT vert that needs some TLC, so my next step is trying to figure the best way to get to that magical number of 550-650rwhp. I know and definetly want to go the FI route. I am up in the air as far as pushrod/4v mod/lsx

So who has 550-650rwhp and what kinda mods you got?

well scott, welcome back.
since you're looking at a 94, my combo won't really help you much. 2V at just over 550 to the wheels.
in a nutshell, single turbo, forged stroked motor, heads, cams, everything on the top end, trans, suspension.
Gotta get the power to the road, and all that good stuff.
you'll probably want to break it down based on the platform you're building from. Will be a fun project, lots of homework ahead of you.
looking forward to seeing it unfold.

Well I am at the point where I am open to anything right now. I am not afraid of swapping any motor into it except a mopar lol

Things I know
Stick
Nice suspension but not setup for road coarse nor track (had one of those already and never drove it)
power adder (prob ST)

Can easily be done with a push rod stroker with a blower or turbo

Neighbor has 306, trick flow r, trick heads( not sure which) ysi. pulls 9 in the quarter through an auto in a Fox body weighing over 3200. Rwhp was 640 at anderson
dyno day. Combo has held for about 9 years I think. Cruises on street all the time.

Yea i am trying to weigh the cost to performance ratio..
Things that hold me back with each selection

Pushrod 5.0 = cost/block
Termy swap = cost of drop out
LSX swap = cost of the swap/wiring harness
2v with turbo/blower = donor vehicle/internals

As much of an lsx guy I am. I would love to swap in a 5.3/6.0, but idk.. I am thinking of a pushrod stroker with turbo, but really cant find a good block short of a new dart. Are the Boss blocks still having water passage issues

Wow you guys and your high HP... One of these days.... Lol!

Myself I'm doing an Eaton swap on a 2v. Overall plans for years down the road when I get this done is to have fully forged bottom end, built top end and either ported Eaton or Whipple or KB and be pusing around 600rwhp. I know it's achievable it's just kind of the cost factor.

The old saying applies, Cheap, Reliable, and fast, you can only pick 2. Anything is possible with the right amount of money. Good way to get HP for a pushrod car, get a 351w stroker, full hci package on it with a mild blower, easy power! Or get a 4v, those b*tches love boost ;)

Yea i am not trying to "cheap" out. I dont wanna put 10k into a pushrod when i can put 5k into an lsx and get the same power or a 4v or vice versa. If that makes sense. I dont mind spending the money. I have 5k just int he suspension of my last car. Im just looking bamg for the buck i guess just like everyone else.

What are the 351 blocks good for? I wouldnt mind doing a 408 turbo.

With a Ford pushrod motor at that power level the block splitting will always be a concern. I've never heard of anyone splitting a 4.6 block from making too much power, and a forged rotating assembly can be picked up for one for under $2k. After that it's just how much boost would you like? Aluminum blocks can be had for around $300, and B-heads are nearly as cheap as 2v pi heads anymore. Pick out a blower and go from there. Just my $.02

302 blocks are good til 550hp. 351w good til 800-900. 4.6 easily 1000. If I was you. I would do a 408w build lower compression and supercharge. Probably 600-700 horse
