Why are so many off you scared to install stuff on your car? There are threads about cost to install cams, cost install x pipe, cost to install supercharger.

If you are having to pay somebody to install shit, why not save that money and get yourself a good set of hand tools, 4 good jackstands and a good jack and get out there and start wrenching on your car and learning about instead of taking it to the "pros" who are only going to take your money.

I agree. Me, My dad, and my Uncle installed a shift kit in my stang. It took about 6 hours cause we didnt know what the hell we were doing. But in the end, we got it finished. It woulda took what 300 bucks to have someone install it?

I dont have a ton of mechanical knowledge, but I try to do as much as i can without paying someone else. If anyone on here is like me you have to pay for installations because you live in the city. The only work I can do on my car, is work I can accomplish in the parking lot of my apartment. That is a very annoying aspect to me ,when people constantly bitch at me to save my money and do it myself. I would and have done it myself ,but if it cant be done in a parking lot than i cant do it!!!!

I lived in the country most all my life and I told the same things to many of my friends living in the city, I never understood why they paid so much for labor work. I now know.

For some of the work though, I would pay the labor cost just because i want a professional job. I might of been able to install my 4.10s if i had the right equipment and space but even then i wouldnt of done it because i wanted them installed professionally. It is a judgement call, if you want work done professionally you take it to a professional. If you feal you can do a professional job yourself than do it yourself. Ive never understood this classic debate.

a Pro is no different then anyone else on this board. Not a single thing i'm afraid to install, because most likely I will do it better then some of the so called "pro's". Bussiness cards and a shop doesn't make anyone a pro or qualified to do something.

That's true V but then again in his situation where he has no access to any equip.. he is kinda limited to what he can/can't do...

You can rent lifts just about anywhere, and tools. If you can spend the cash on a "pro", then you can spend the cash on the tools.

Plus he said he isn't a very mechanically inclined so.. that would probably be the biggest reason.
He would rather pay someone who knows more than him and they have a less likely chance of messing up compared to him, plus most places will fix things if they break due to their install errors....

A haynes or chilton manual while you do your work is your best friend. There is nothing hard about unbolting something and then bolting something new in its place. I live in an apartment too. Only thing I can't do in the parking lot is a motor swap. That's why my motor is at my dad's house. When I get it done I will install it.

I mean when I get my blower, I'm putting it on.
Any work that is done to my car, I'ma do (with help of my mechanic friends)
And that's how I will learn.

Unless I wanna drive 3 hours to see my dad and get him to help me..

i brought my car to my mechanic to get my clutch done.. dont have the space nor the time to do it.. i'm a heavy duty mechanic for caterpillar myself so i am able to do the work but i choose not to.
next time my clutch gets done i'm sure i'll do the same thing.. dont feel like doing it myself.. plain and simple.
not everyone that likes car modifications likes to do all/any of the work themselves. and when things are going to be a PITA if the price is right then i'll send it off to my mechanic.. thats just me tho. everyone feels different about their own cars. as long as you find someone to work on your car that you can trust then theres no worries about sending it to them.

I want to build my own car. I've actually put off some mods because I don't yet have the equipment to take a whack at it myself. I've always loved tearing stuff apart to see how it works, and then putting it back together again. Since I've had my stang I've been slowly getting more and more tools, so I can better work on my car and expand what I can do. It's not much, but I now have a floor jack, jack stands, a compressor with some OK air tools, wrenches, ratchets, screwdrivers, and some various hand tools. It has taken me a while but I'm getting there. Tools first, then mods. All in all though, I love working on my car, even if I'm not sure what the hell I'm doing sometimes..

my dad doesnt want me too "waste my time" working on my car so he offers to pay for all installs. Its really hard to argue with that because i would have to pay for tools. Also shop takes liability for anything they screw up on install, if i did it i could only blame myself :nonono:
