It arrived! It’s a lot thicker than I expected, but that’s ok with me!

Found the leak! Fracture @ 0900 adjacent bottom bolt. It didn’t leak before so I must’ve over-tightened it and stress-cracked it. So that means (in hindsight) that my previous 4 attempts with various gaskets and RTV combinations might’ve been right. Guess I’m shopping for a replacement water neck now.

Good point, Opal. Overlooked a potential culprit. Good call. But to answer your question, I don’t know :-(

I don’t know if the water pump was replaced when the motor was rebuilt/stroked 7k miles ago or not. And when I contacted the engine builder about a year ago to get a full rundown/specs of the rebuild, they have NOTHING due to a complete and total computer dump at their office. So basically I’m S.O.L.

Not sure I want to go through the whole tear down to pull the water pump just for a look-see (though, come to think of it, I wouldn’t mind replacing or cleaning up my rusty harmonic balancer). Save that as a Plan B and see how the cooling is in the meantime.

From all my years building these things one thing i can say is that engine builders dont usually upgrafe or replace accessories. Ie. ( Alt, water pump ect) they just build the short block. Id bet its the same pump that was on the motor when you gave it to them. The only mechanical water pump worth using is a Stewart componets stage 1.

Food for thought. Thx Opal!

Next obvious question is: which one?!
I did a quick search @ Summit and not sure which version you’re referring to: 16133, 16153, 16173 or 16183?

Not many options in the aftermarket world for these cars. I found Tuff Stuff but not sure I’m happy with it. I’ll keep this one in mind. Thanks

Rolling the dice, taking a shot: ordered the 16183 and Fel-pro gasket. Then (after order confirmed) they recommended the Cometic gasket, but I could swear they listed it for the 351w so that’s why I went with the Fel-pro

After 8,000 tries I finally have a leak/drip free thermostat housing! And, a new hi-flow water pump (also sealed up 100%).
Once I get the ignition actuator R&R’d, I can fire it up and see how she does.
