You can do it if you want but I would rather have more oil on my rotating parts.

isnt that what a windage tray does?

No, exactly the opposite.

It keeps excess oil off of the rotating assembly. Only time I think it would be worth it is if you're building a race car where you have high RPM and big HP numbers.

is just a stock pan fine with a 331? or should i do something bigger?

For a street car it's fine. If you're doing a girdle I believe you need an aftermarket pan.

A girdle is a waste as well but that is personal opinion too.

i was gonna do a girdle but i decided against it, all it does it strengthen the bottom, so then the weak point moves to the lifter valley and cracks it, stock volume oil pump is fine too? its gonna mostly be a DD and sometimes see the track

i was under the impression the windage tray only "functions" at higher RPMs, therefore at lower RPMs the amount of oil on the rotating assembly should be relatively the same...

also, is there a benifit of preventing oil blow by with the use of a windage tray?

A stock pump is fine. Get a melling pump from AutoZone/Advance/Napa etc.

If you lose the block, the rod etc. everything is going to get chewed up...a girdle just keeps the pile of mess in one pile of sh1t.

Less resistance for the rotating assembly.

Less resistance = spins faster

i know in my mm&ff mag from a month ago they put one in a 347 and it made an extra 10hp in about the 5500+ rpm range,

but maybe a pan with a crank scraper will be just as good? and less of a p.i.t.a

its not.

question:
at lower RPMs will the windage tray still allow roughly the same amount of oil on the crankshaft as if it wasnt there?

question 2:
at higher RPMs will the windage tray aid in blow by?
