I have 30% on all the windows, front doors, back, & quarter. The law here is 30% on back window and 50% on front windows.
I live here in the D.C, area. I know for a fact that if you tint the front windshield or go any darker on the driver/passenger windows, they will approach with guns drawn, and have you remove the tint before driving away, along with a hefty ticket.
If they can not easily see inside your vehicle from any angle to see if someone is holding a weapon, they freak the fuck out!
It is a little different here. At least with me, constantly having to deal with State, County, Town, FBI, Secret Service, Park Police.

I really want 35 and 20 in the back windshield but Jersey sucks.

You know you can put tint on your rear windows and back windshield. Just nothing on the front doors. But I have 5% in back and 35% on the front doors. I don't get hassled by the cops.

Yeah, If you go light enough most of the time they leave you alone. I'm going to get it done this summer, last year having the fish bowl look.

I wonder what a 20% back windshield, and 35% for quarter and sides. Or would it be better to have 25% or 20% all around excluding front windshield. I have saddle interior and I know it can make darker tint look brighter.

20% on sides and rear.. During the day in the sunlight you could see an outline of passengers from the sides... At night you can't see in it from the sides, and barely from the front. (The green car had saddle interior).. my buddy who owned the talon pictured next to my old car, (after these pics were taken) got 20% all the way around.. You couldn't see in that car during the day, not to mention night. Sunroof open, still could not even make out an outline of the driver... but I don't think I could risk that much attention. I will probably just get a nice eyebrow of tint on my current car.

Yeaaah, That looks nice. I had a beatiful looking White Dodge Dakota with 20% all the way around overtop of the factory tint and looked really sharp.

I did it a little darker in the back and lighter in the front for some contrast plus my back is dark so I want cops to see me at night. But whenever I get pulled over (not that often), I immediately roll down the windows so cops can see me that way I figure the guy is less likely to give me a ticket for the tint. I think 20% all around would look good, but I like it a little dark so I'm bias. The lighter interior will make the tint look darker. You should go to the shop you are thinking of doing it at and see if they have some cars there that they tinted. You can get a pretty good idea like that.

Yeah thats what I'm going to do. This is not my daily driver so not to worried about getting pulled over, and if I do then it pretty much sums up what you just said.

I have not done the Mustang yet, its on the to do list once its running though. I did get the Subaru tinted. Honestly I cant remember what % I have I just know its the darkest on the rear and gets lighter the more towards the front. Its illegal to have front windshield tint here but we can get the strip done along the top. I have mine at the state limits and had it done at my friends shop. Comes with a lifetime warranty it was $200.

I have tinted my mustangs numerous of times. I have had 35%, 20%, and 5%.
I will never put 35% on again as it is too light, nor 5% as it is too dark.

I loved 20%, it give you just enough darkness to look good, but doesn't cloud your visibility as much as 5%

And you have to put vinyl on the dot matrix on the back window.

I thought vinyl might be the trick as i hear that's what they do at the top of the rear window as well. Just wondering if there was any way to do the side windows so that it looks halfway decent.

I have a window tint / legality question....So if I am from SD (35% front/20% rears). And drive in IA or MN, both have more strict laws, can they, or would they give me a ticket? I have SD license plates........

No you are fine then. Just b/c your windows are tinted you are not restricted to where you can drive. It only matters where the car is registered. My Cobra came with very very dark tint from FL where they have no tint laws but once I got the car up to maine and registred here and went to get it inspected I had to have the tint taken off b/c it was way beyond the legal limites of the state.
