i found a guy locally selling some 205/50/17 winter tires for really cheap. would these be too skinny for my cobra rims for the winter? The car came with summer performance tires and i'll need to switch them this winter and these are a great deal.

dude, go to the junkyard and get yourself a set of crown vic steal rims. I still have mine for the winter. I got the steel rims and went to sams and bought some 225 75 r 15's for the back and some 205 50 15 for the front. It worked out well. However now I don't have to use them because I bought a truck. But their going on it when i take it to the paint shop in the winter.

be aware taller tires makes you speedo off. Your going faster then what it reads just FYI

yah i know about the speedo. I'm just thinking of these since they are only 100 for all four contiwintercontact tires (really good tread left) and i don't have nice enough rims to want a different rim for the winter.

For some reason I had gotten confused mid-thread. The second post says 205/50/15. which is only a 23" tall tire.

If you go with the 205/50/17's, they will be very thin (better for snow traction) but only about 1/2" smaller in overall diameter than a stock tire

so maybe it would be an ok deal

however they will be very hard to get to fit your cobra wheels. especially if they are 17x9

i dont know what my rims are. is there a way to tell w/o taking them off? I'm pretty sure they are stock 99 17x8's.

i'm going to go ahead and get the rims. 205 is less wide, but they should be good for winter as you said. I'll call my local shop though to make sure they would fit on 17x8s.
