i had a 1 channel amp and sub in my 98 V6 and when i installed the system, i ran the wire that goes from the battery to the amp through the rubber grommet that seals off the hole that is there for a clutch cable since my V6 was an automatic.

i removed the sub/amp/wiring from my V6 before i sold it and now i want to put it in the Cobra, but of course, the cobra is a 5-speed and that hole is taken by the clutch quadrant and cable.

where do i route this damn wire?

you can still run it through the clutch hole. but its easier to just run it through the door jamb and tuck it under all the plastic panels
until you get to the trunk

above the clutch is a large grommet with other wires going through it and it is super easy to pull wires through it.

I would reach through this computer and smack you for giving hack advice of running it through the door jamn. That is a great way to short the wire out later as well as look like your 12 nephew put it in for you. Maybe in a camaro or a ricer but not in a stang.

Thats ho ran my first system the wire wasn't visible and it never gave me any problems, my current setup is run above the clutch and and run under the carpet to the trunk

that is the biggest hack install job you can do, don't EVER tell anyone to do the same and especially not on here. Give good advice, not bad....

I haven't seen anyone run a power wire through the door jam in a long time... those were the good old days. My buddy had his ran through the door and got into an accident. There were sparks shooting out from the door where the wire got sliced and was hitting bare metal. Of course if you are dumb enough to run the wire like that, you aren't going to put a fuse on it.

that is common. IF they are not smart enough to run it correctly they often will not fuse it. I have seen carpets burned from where it grounded out all the way to the battery.

ive seen a couple of hoopties burn to the ground doe to running it thru the door jam and not properly fused or oversized breaker used. door closes and pinches the wire then........poof, like cheech and chong it went up in smoke, and flames.

telling someone to run it thru the door jam is like telling them to run their fuel line thru the inside of the car and smoking at the same time. not too bright!!!!

no we all start somewhere and while I have not admitted it for 10 yrs my first stere I installed I ran it through the doorjam too, but changed it out in a week when I saw that it was wearing on the wire already.. Learn from your mistakes and you will not need to call yourself names.

not saying.......just saying........lol

on a serious note, noone is calling you a dumbass, but you need to make sure you really have a clue as to the correct way to do something before telling someone else how to do it. for example, i dont know squat about brain surgery so do you really want me giving your friend intel right before he cuts your head wide open........scalpel....or is it the saw....screw it just give me a hammer!!!!! lol

yea as he said please do not be offended by what we said but it is difficult to overcome bad advice online because its hard to tell who knows what. I worked as an installer for 10+ yrs so I am comfortably giving most advice here from audio/vid to security but I am just half a step above a moron under the hood. I do alot more reading then writting on there and most of my writting is questions to learn more.

Yep. Practice makes perfect. And you always learn something new... I think my first stereo was stripped and then I used scotch tape......

hell I didn't want to get into details, but in that first install I learned NOT to hook the power wire up to the battery with no fuse then run it through the fender unless you like sparks. Live and learn people, live and learn..

GOOD MAN! We all start somewhere and do dumb stuff from time to time, if we are smart we learn from the mistakes and the successes

The best thing to do is drill a new hole or run the wire through the rubber grommet on the fire wall

I have 4 amps in my car and a processor and 2 runs of 0 gauge going from the front to the back and went through the rubber grommet

I am getting ready to run dual power and ground 0 awg but will be drilling and adding my own grommets for those runs. Drilling a new hole is not that hard if you want/need to do it, let us know if that is the case and we would be happy to help. In my career installing I would be afraid to know how many holes I had to drill but never did poke anything I wasn't supposed too.

If the wire from the control handle is routed down the joystick shaft with little slack, the wire will tend to flex over a small area. Eventually the repeated flexing will cause the wire strands to break. The solution is to provide enough slack in the cable so that the flexing motion is distributed over a longer section of wire.
