Won't stay running!

Today after work I went to start my car and it just started surging real bad and shut off. I tried to rev it a little and then it just does the same thing. I finally got the car to stay running after it warmed up but it still idles real low and surges a little. Does anyone knowwhat this could be. It is a 96 gt 5 speed with no mods except for a upr catted x pipe and flowmaster cat back. Please help this is my daily driver.

Seriously...check all the hoses around the tb/plenum area...if any of them come loose it usually causes your car to not idle.

I thought it might be the IAC I have one off of an 02 gt do you think it will work. Also I don smell gas sometimes but it comes from the back of the car by the tank. I smell it mostly in the trunk but it's usually only after i get gas.

same thing happened to me it was the IAC it needed to be taken out and cleaned.

I also agree with IAC, but if that fails to solve it, check for leaks past the MAF.
