Would you drive a low mileage Cobra?

Let me explain,

As I'm browsing my local Craigslist I sometimes stumble across Cobras or Mach 1s or some rare variation of Mustang that has less than 10k miles on it. The last model year of the SN95 is 13 years old, so that averages out to about 750 miles a year at best. That just seems like a sad life.

And these people are always asking $30-40k for these cars! So you have a predicament, you just shelled out say $35k for a decade+ old rare Mustang with hardly any mileage, wouldn't you feel guilty driving it? The paint is mint everything is new, you start to worry about accidents, cars bumping you in parking lots etc. So do you drive it or not? Do you preserve it or enjoy it?

It'll probably need a ton of maintenance anyway as rubber seals don't like to sit unlubricated, tires get old and dangerous to drive on, fluids will need changing and on and on..

I just don't see the point in keeping it low mileage. IMO a Cobra is meant to be driven not babied you cannot enjoy such a low mileage car. It reminds me of those old Ferrari collectors that have some of the most amazing cars ever produced yet they sit in a hangar collecting dust.

Take it out and burn the tires off daily!!! It's what it was designed for. It's not a trophy.

It would be like having a porn star appendage and not tapping every piece of sweet arse around cause your afraid of breaking it.

Exactly! A Cobra can be kept as a weekend toy and still be enjoyed without ruining the paint and without getting rusty. This one guy said he's the first owner and only drove 12k miles since he bought the '03 which was likely purchased new in '02. What's the point in keeping it? Lol.

That's why I bought a Cobra with 127,000 miles that cost $5000.00. The car is not collectable so I don't feel bad driving the crap out of it.

With so many miles most things on the car need to be replaced so I don't feel bad modifying it to have the car I want.

I love collectable muscle cars but would never buy one. When I was younger I had a 66 Chevelle SS396, I would love to have that car built into a pro touring car car than restored to stock.

Takes all kinds...

My boss has a car collection with his dad and some of the cars include a 96 Cobra with 120 miles, a 99 Cobra Vert with 104 miles, a 16 Shelby GT350 with 130 miles, a 17 Shelby GT350 with 7 miles, a 92 Camaro Z28 with 1200 miles and a 10 Camaro SS with 40 miles. Every time I'm over in the showroom I just want to drive those cars cause I don't agree with keeping a car low mileage.

I can see both sides of the coin myself and have no problem with a low mileage car sitting to appreciate it.

Let's be realistic. It's a mustang. It's never going to be worth anything crazy. Drive the hell out of it. Who cares?

These cars arent worth anything near that price. If you did buy it for that price (youre stupid), as soon as you put 1 mile on it the value has gone down tremendously. Not to mention all the problems that come with sitting. Bearings, brakes, bushings, fluids, the list goes on. Buy something thats been driven and save money. Hell, you could buy one thats beat to hell, build an engine, transmission, rear end, full suspension, new paint, new interior, and still be cheaper than $30k then have a brand new car.

Before I bought my Cobra (97 with 68k miles) I was pretty close to buying a 95 R I found with 13k miles for around $28k. I usually put only about 3-4k/year on my pleasure vehicles, I store them in the winter and don't drive them in bad weather, but I wouldn't treat an ultra low mileage car any different. If it's nice out, I'm driving it either to work, the store, or just because I want to.

This ^

If you paid more than 25-30k for any late model mustang, specialty models aside, you're pretty dumb.

if we drove the piss out of every single one, there would be no more left to appreciate later. I would be pissed off if ever single 60-70s mustang had used this theory and there were no more in show/museum quality to go enjoy looking at.

That's just the thing though, back then they didn't think about it as collectors cars yet so most of them did drive their cars hard. We only think of it that way now because it's been long enough that the originals are classics.

Ask anyone older who was driving back in the 60-70's and they usually have some Wild and crazy stories to tell about crazy stuff they did in their cars.

Most of those stories end in ......."what I'd give to have that car back.......". Lol

sure and then there were enough of them stuck in the back of a barn to keep them fresh that we are still pulling them out to this day. You guys make it sound like its some huge number of cars that are low milage and stock preserved. I think we all know they cranked out the sn's as fast as they could and we see these cars online and it makes it seem like they are everywhere but I think we know thats not the case.

Well it's somewhat common on my local craigslist. I wouldn't say it's a huge number but very rarely do they have medium mileage and pretty much none have high mileage.
