I finished installing my motor and started her up. Started up just fine but then I realized it was leaking coolant from the side of the block where there is a plug. I tightened this plug as tight as it could go, and I added thread sealant to the plug. Now its leaking. Is there anything I can do to stop this leak? Would a dab of jb weld over the entire thing work? please help...

Are the threads stripped? Is the bolt the right thread pattern for the hole? Two bad scenarios... If it is then I agree with the two people above... make sure the thread tape is applied properly, or use rtv.

It went it smooth about half way, then it got kinda tough wrenching the rest in. Im not sure if the threads are stripped. Im gonna attempt to remove it, dry, apply teflon tape, and reinstall tomorrow.

the threads on the plug are NPT so its supposed to have resistance the farther in it goes. you will have to drain the cooling system as that is the lowest point in the block. do that then buy some good teflon paste sealant. load it up and reinstall it. it wont leak again

Ok this is what I did....I removed the plugs, dried the threads, applied a generous amount of teflon tape, and rubbed on some rtv on the threads. I re-installed the plugs and now im waiting till tomorrow to allow for the rtv to fuly dry. I just realized that coupe5ohh said blue rtv. oops, I applied regular black rtv. I hope this works, if not i'll be at it again tomorrow. I'll keep you guys posted. Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

good deal

a old school trick is to take that plug out and install a radiator petcock. it is the same threads and makes draining the block a lot easier especially if you ever plan on doing a h/c/i or yanking the motor. i put them in my motors.
