I just got done swapping in a Fluidyne 3 core radiator, last year i swapped on a Murray (autozone) water neck with an autozone 180 thermostat, used RTV on both sides of their paper gasket and it held up great until today (about 4 days after installing radiator) my question is with the new radiator does the autozone crap just not hold up anymore? or did I install the waterneck wrong last year. I'm looking at the FRPP water neck from American Muscle and also a new thermostat just curious what everyone's thoughts were. Granted I did not notice that much difference in temps from the Fluidyne over stock, idle around 210-220 cruising 200F and 180F with the a/c fan going.

Make sure when mine was bad it ran hot and when I truned the ac on the fan came on but it wasn't pulling enough air. I thought a blow a head gasket that's how bad it would over heat

okay, i moved my coolant gauge to the intake manifold my temps are much more accurate now, problem is with the Ford thermo housing and grey Permatex gasket sealer on each end of the gasket the seal breaks and my leak comes back once the temp hits 200F thoughts?

Hmm...... You using a gasket AND rtv? I believe MC told me at one point (referring to the water pump on my jeep, but can't be much different) to just use rtv. Because I too was using both and it's still leaking.. I just haven't had the desire to fix it. But this time I'm going just rtv. And I would use blue personally. I've never used gray tho

Thats the exact spot I was at with my jeep which is why I tossed it outside the warehouse and came home and started working on the Mustang lol. Just walk away from it for now, unless its your daily... But definitely try blue and JUST rtv. Hopefully that will help

It's not just ford man I promise you that lol. I went through 2 different gaskets on the water pump on my jeep, one that came with the pump, and on Fel-Pro. Neither one worked.... It's just coolant related problems in general if you ask me lol they never go right

I have been told by a very good mechanic that Hondabond is the best RTV available.

His theory is that it probably contains whale semen.

For sealing, make sure both mating surfaces are flat. Some gaskets are soft so they will conform to rough or warped mating surfaces but if the surfaces are flat, stronger, less compliant materials will work. Anaerobic gasket sealants or gasgacinch are two things to consider for gasket prep.

If I had problems I would attempt to make a vulcanized paper gasket with gasgacinch to glue everything together.

If I couldn't find a combo of gasket and prep that sealed, I would try to flatten the mating surfaces with some preheat so that it stays flat when warm.

But first see if there is a good premium gasket out there.
