Hey I went and looked at a 94 GT convertible today. Its red with a white top, 18 inch cobra Rs with decent tires. The are is a little ruff around the edges. My question is it really worth it? Here is a few key points...Tell me what you guys think!

1. The car has 120,000 miles maybe more cause the odometer doesnt work, he said its been like that for 2 months

2. The top is in okay shape leaks in 1 place.

3. The car runs okay the oil pressure is a little low it stays around the N on normal

4. We let it run for 10 mins the car over heated but the radiator was ice cold i think the thermostat is stuck closed the cars been sitting for about 2 months!

5. The seats are in crappy shape. I would give the paint a 4, the interior a 3, the car needs alot of work but for 1600 dollars thats not a bad price for a new project car right? i am thinking of doing a Saleen setup on the car...Is it worth it?

If the bodys in great shape get it. Drive it till it blows up then drop a new motor in.

I'd try to get it as cheaply as possible. I always assume more is wrong that what I think there may be (and I'm generally right) I don't think the price is far off. For a clean titled, complete running / driving car w/ some issues I don't think 1200 or so would be a bad deal IMO. Sounds like a decent project car to me.

I say for that little of an amount, I would buy it! You can replace just about all you need to, & still be OK on your $. My 2 cents!

Another reason for buying it. You can buy it for next to nothing, put some $ into it & make a lot of it back. Or keep it because vert's are just cool cars.

Do you really need it ? If you know its a good deal but I'm sure you checked all that overheating stuff besides the thermostat as in a head gasket or such. They are a dime a dozen with bad motors out there but if its what you want then I'd bring him $1200 cash and bet he still takes it !

well my current stang is putting the limits on reliability so i am looking to make this one a DD, My stang now is putting around 12 pounds on a 75 shot so a DD is a good idea! I think i am gonna offer him between 1200 to 1400 and see if he bites and if so than i will get it if not i will look for another! Thanks for all the info

If i get it i will rebuild the motor put a around 300 into it than clean it up real good and i am sure i could flip it for a gain if i wanted too!

Thats not bad, it would run you @ $2000 to put a new top on and redo the interior. As long as the body is ok you can put that off while you get the mechanical sorted out. Best thing about the 5.0 is parts are abundant and cheap for the most part.

I would think for @ $5000 total including purchase price you could have a really nice vert.

Yea its gonna need a rebuild right off the get go! The low oil pressure combined with the overheating while just idling makes me think the motor is on its last leg, but i have rebuilt motors in the past so a rebuild isn't a big deal...i am gonna get with the guy tomorrow and talk a price. Whats the most i should offer?
