Nice score on the heads . The cobra intakes really hold these things back too.

Yeah, I know I should get a different intake but I’m in love with the look of it and like the idea of trying to keep its Cobra identity. Not really trying to go for all out power, this is just gonna be a fun street car for burnies and corner carving. I’d be more than happy with 350-400whp and I think I can get there with all the goodies I’ve got laying around through the factory intake. It is a bit silly, but it’s always something I can change later if I need more.

Can’t deny the cobra intake is pretty. It’s doable for sure with the Vortech and the heads .My car made 352/380 first go around and then it made 382/400 or something after I changed the valve springs with the cobra intake . I switched to e85 and put more timing in the car it probably picked up another 30 . That’s a ton of fun for a street cruiser .

Just sitting looking at all these parts piling up. Picked up some used LTs and O/R pipe from a member here. Blower, coilovers and ATS Brembos not pictured because they’re hiding in the shop.

Got to get my daily F250 out of the shop and it’ll finally be time to rip this car apart.

Slow moving but we getting there.

Well it’s taken a lot longer to get the motivation to get the car in the shop but finally started slowly on it this weekend.

IMG_7863.jpeg

Got the motor yanked and tore down to a shortblock this weekend.

Me and Steven felt that the car may have had a vacuum leak during the tuning process but wasn’t able to find it. After removing the upper intake, which had one bolt finger tight, I found a missing bolt on the lower intake so thinking that, along with some worn rubber bits had a lot to do with the vacuum leaks.

Hacked up the exhaust rather than trying to spend forever pulling it apart. The H-pipe was mangled up from being on the ground and had been repaired poorly in the past. It’s trash as the long tubes will need their own mid pipe so hacked them up to get them off.

IMG_7859.jpeg

No other real surprises pulling the motor other than the P/S cooler that was just jammed in the core support and zip tied to keep it from flopping about.

Came out relatively easy solo.

Tearing into the motor brought a few new surprises.

My biggest goal with tearing it down was to figure out exactly what came was in it.

First thing I noticed pulled the heads was boy those pistons don’t look like any stock pistons I’ve ran across.

After getting the timing cover off and tanking the cam, I haven’t gotten any closer to figuring out what it actually is. The numbers have me believing it’s a custom grind and googling has pulled 1 ancient forum post from the Turbo Forums back in 2003 that had the 3630/3630 HR114 mentioned but after joining the forums, I just chased a dead end and have no more info on the cam.

At this point, I was starving and decided to come in for lunch but I did notice some shiney peaking out of the oil pan.
IMG_7871.jpeg

After choking down the last of the leftover stuffing and rushing back out there, I was excited to find this under the oil pan:

Spent a little bit of time removing old gasket material and wiping everything down.

Shops GOT to get cleaned up before I go any further but hope to have the block prepped and ready for paint this week. Going to clean up the oil pan and timing cover and slap it all on to fog together.

Goal is to have the new heads assembled on the motor by next weekend and spend time cleaning everything up and getting ready to start going back together.

Nice work . Always nice to find some fancy stuff in the bottom end . Did you look at the balancer or flywheel by chance ? Possibly 28 oz and it’s 331 or 347 ?

They’re standard flywheel and balancer. I’m going to measure the bore just to double check, but with it still being 50oz, I don’t think I’ve got any other bigger suprises.

Regardless, this does make a lot of sense on why it’s ran like dogshit on stock GT E7 heads lol.

For sure . Those pistons got decent valve reliefs . Regardless nice score with the goodies inside . Some small chamber headers to get the compression up and should be fun .

We in the "run what you got" mode so the AFR 185 Chyna bois Enforcers are going on regardless lol. I believe they're 64cc.

I did run back out in the shop and degrease the motor and slide the cam back in. I’m going to run my timing cover and oil pan by my buddies job after work tomorrow and take over their parts washer and get them cleaned up. I’ll get them mounted up tomorrow or the next day and try and rig up a heater somehow to throw some paint on the bottom end.

I gotta get this shitbox done so I can on the Fairlane in the background. It’s teasing me.

Look for part numbers or more info on the crank, I tore down a 347 that had a cheater crank in it. Used the factory 50oz balancer so it didn’t look like a stroker engine.

No real significant updates but have started throwing money at the fuel system. I’m going ahead and building this with the idea of running E85 in the future.

I have been struggling to spend the money on the high dollar name brand stuff and went the same way I’ve went on a lot and gotten used good stuff where it matters and good ole China parts for the rest.

I am picking up a set of ID 1050X injectors from my buddy that bought my C5. He got them for a LSA setup so had to order some top hats and EV1-EV6 adapters but still came in under $800 and he sent these off to ID and had them cleaned and checked over and sitting on the shelf so I know they’re ready to roll. I’ll have to make a run back to Middle TN at some point to pick them up.

Fuel pump is a Quantum hanger with a big Walbro E85 pump. $280 after coupon code. It is a 8AN feed, 6AN return hanger so ordered up Evil Energy PTFE kits in both sizes. I’m still need to order a T to plumb this how I want but between the two kits, I should have enough for this car and the DSM and a good portion of the Fairlane when I build the EFI system for it. $250ish in the line kits and AN tools. $30 Amazon FPR that I’ve got some buddy’s using currently with good results. Ordered a RaceTronix fuel rail kit as well, they look like an Aeromotive dupe and they’re black which is a big plus over the red Aero bits. $150 on that. I still need to order a fuel filter but I’m going to wait until I start running lines and see where it’s going to be the best to live and be easily serviceable before deciding on a size.

Today I’m going to work on cleaning the shop some more and get a list together of what I need to finish buttoning the motor up. The original hardware was getting pretty toasted so ordering some hardware for sure. I need a set of roller rockers, really deciding whether I want to go 1.6 or 1.7 with the mystery cam, and I’ll need to measure for pushrods once I get the heads on. If I get real focused, I may start tearing down the fuel system or maybe the front suspension, we will see how the day feels.

Cleaned up the mating surfaces and slapped the ARP studs and heads on. Slapped the rockers on for a picture and measured out for new pushrods. I was a bit taken aback about how expensive pushrods have gotten but I guess that’s everything.

Still gotta decide on paint and cleanup the brackets and intakes. If it ever warms up long enough, I’ll be able to get some more knocked out and get the shop cleaned out.

ADHD’d from cleaning my shop to toss the blower on while I was soaking the Power Pipe in paint stripper. Got to order some hardware but I think I’ve mentally got my color palette decided on. I’ve got to finish up the rocker install, I need to adjust my guide plates a little and then get everything torqued down. Weather change is going to get this rolling a lot better.

Nice , I’m getting excited for ya now . You’re Goona love this car . For a street car a head cam intake supercharged car is probably the perfect amount of useable power imo .

Couldn't agree more with that statement, Modular or push rod.

Parts came back from powder coating a week or so ago- finally took the time to sand down the letters. It’s been miserably hot in the shop so go out there about 6am and by 8am, I’m done with that. Been busy tinkering on the other shitboxes and trying to get the Cutlass sold. Hoping to turn that car loose and throw some money at shiney new hardware.

I realized the tube between the blower and the intake is a hacked up Foxbody unit. Going to get a buddy of mine to give me a hand drawing up and attempting to 3D print a new one that will fit appropriately and give me a mount for a blow off valve instead of the nipple for the bypass valve. Vortech offers something like this for the Foxbody that’s aluminum that they call their Race Discharge tube, if they ever made one for a 94/95, I can’t find one so going the homemade route. I figure we can print a lot of them before we get to the $200 replacement price for the standard one for a 94/95.
