I picked this car up for $1200 from a friend. 1995 Mustang GT automatic - shorty headers, catless H pipe, flowmasters and 3.73 gears. I figured it would be a nice cruiser for my GF to drive.

picked up some 03 Cobra OEM wheels and tires for $400, slammed them on and gave the car a work out with the orbital buffer

the whole fleet

Motor runs great but the only catch was that the transmission needed repair, he was convinced it just needed a new pump

Pulled out the AODE which is no small task to do on your own!

After taking the trans to a local shop, they pulled the cover off and snap rings and chunks of metal started falling out. Guy said "at least" $900 to fix it, so there goes that idea.

Start fresh

I figured if i am going to spend that kind of money, i might as well do something a little big "bigger" than just a bolt on auto 5.0

I already have a buyer for the stock engine, so what to replace it with...

Saw an ad on a local forum for this SBF for $450, took a little trip up to Rochester to pick it up Brought it home wire brushed off some rust, gave her a nice coat of Ford blue and some heads I had laying around and we're back in the game!

Fast foreword to yesterday, pulled the 5.0 out

Grime city, but rust free

and a propaganda shot

more progress today (i was melting, 92 degrees here ugh!)

Stripped down the engine bay, got rid of everything unnecessary, degreased and got it ready for paint

all junk not going back in, pretty heavy pile already. MUCH more to go

old motor, new motor

Now we're about up to speed, i will be updating this when i have time to work on it. This is strictly a "when i have time and motivation" kind of build lol.

Geez, just stab us in the back why don't ya! :)

So why do the GM boys wanna play with blue oval chassis? I mean I know GMs are nothin' to look at, but you have a few cool looking bodies.

Many reasons -

1.) Lets face it, no one expects a stock looking SN95 to run a 9 sec 1/4 mile (my goal here on the bottle)
2.) they expect it even less rolling around on the street
3.) $1200 car
4.) :)

1. No.
2. See #1.
3. Will be sold as a $600 "project" a year from now.
4. Touché. :)

These conversions aren't as cheap and easy as everyone wants to admit. Race car, OK I see some benefit. Street, not so much. A lot of headache for n/a power and to feel cool when you pop the hood in front of bunch of mustang guys. And if you are successful the Ford or GM guys won't want it.

Just being devils advocate.

I appreciate the concern but I ain't scared :) I built a 1000hp twin turbo car in my garage helped with ls1 swaps in an rx7 and a 240sx. I have 24/7 access to a fully equipped shop complete with a brand new MD500 chassis dyno. Go Bills! I also build my cars for me not to impress any group of car guys.

I'd be more impressed with a built Coyote swap...but you ARE doing a good job & nice work...bet you GF can hardly wait to drive that 9 second sleeper!

Outta habit i gotta ask what suspension/rear under the ws6?

Motor specs? We got a AFR headed 365 collecting dust and thought about doing this swap so i'd have something to race since I gotta be at LSx events anyways.

Man, idk i just can't stand Ford engines. I know the new 5.0's make great power but just not my thing. Ive worked on 4v's and i had a 2v for 4 years. Matter of fact just put together a 4v in my garage a few months ago for a friend and i wanted to off myself. I can have an LSx engine together and rocking in a couple hours. The ease of use and the responsiveness to everything from a simple cam swap to power adders is fantastic. I tried the whole Ford thing, I will never go back. In a nutshell... i LOVE mustangs, always have, always will but not a fan of the motors.

Trans am has a Moser 9" rear end, all BMR suspension and QA1 adjustable shocks/springs with QA1 coilovers in the front.

I assume you mean motor specs for this mustang build? Its an iron block 6.0. I will be adding a 24x/24x cam and the LS6 heads i have sitting on the workbench. I am also 99% sure im going to try the carburetor/victor jr route this time around. The car will be on a 150 shot this year. I will probably have my friend that built the trans am motor build this one over the winter. I will be running a TH350 trans. Was going to do a borg warner S475 single turbo, but I havent played with nitrous in a long time and i miss it!

I get that LSs' just rock out of the box. No brainer, power is there. But these Mustangs are not made for those motors, hence a shitload of mods and custom parts.

A roller 351 with some compression, cam, and big heads. You don't think it will make power?? And you don't have to change 1/2 the drivetrain and electronics to do it. A 9 second car is gonna require fuel and drivetrain strength no matter what that power comes from. I get you have the LS just sitting there, but I bet you could get some cash for it and have a built 351 ready for some abuse pretty quick. LS motors aren't cheap, not out here anyways.

Have you ever done an ls1 swap in anything? I really don't know what you mean by tons of custom parts and electronics... K member, some swap headers and an MSD 6210 box... If I want to do fuel injection I will just run an f body computer and engine harness. And how are LS motors expensive? Really not interested in Ford motors at all man. My friend built a 408 Windsor AFR heads the whole 9 yards for his SN95 and my stock motor in my t/a with a cam and a set of trick flow heads made within a few hp of it. Not impressed. This is just a fun/different project for me, IMO small block ford in a mustang is just boring and just like every other one out there.

Kinda came to the wrong place... Not going to get much of a warm welcome here.

As for saying a small block ford is boring, how is a LS anymore exciting? Everyone and their dog has done the swap into something it doesn't belong. Very exciting indeed.

It's cool I'm fine with the swap ... I also have a iron block 6.0 from a silverado ss that I wouldn't mind using in a mustang one day .

Is the car not a Mustang? The whole brand loyalty thing is kinda lame. LS motors are pretty awesome, and they are what I know and what i do well. I figured that car enthusiasts would appreciate a hot rod build that is different from the average "look at my new wheels and CAI install". I have owned all types of cars and owned a mustang for years, just always left me disappointed in the performance department. I know, I know i can build anything to be fast with deep enough pockets, but i'm cheap. Enjoy it, hate it, its my car and my build. I will slap 5's with a Honda/ford/bmw/chevy/brand X dude with a cool build. Im a car guy, not a chevy or ford guy. Sorry if that bothers you.

Sounds like you're pretty brand loyal... Not sure what you're going on a rant about.

All I said was you're not going to get a warm welcome here. And you can't really say a small block ford is any less exciting than a LS.
