I dont know if the winter driving soften me up, but I can't seem to shift into 2nd while racing! I always miss and hear the god awful grind and rev. Funny thing is I can nail the 2-3 shift perfect. I have been experimenting and when I try to do a fast shift in to second with varying rpms, it always seems to slip past 3000rpm. My dad said its the synchronizers in the tranny causing in, as we did have issues before winter with it. Would a short throw kit help a little?

Have you checked out your clutch cable or maybe the clutch itself? It very well could be the synchro and grinding it all those times isn't helping matters...

The clutch is an issue in itself. My brother who owned the car before me probably never let the clutch seat probably and raced it too much, overheated and warping my flywheel probably. It has a bit of clutch chatter and engages about 1-2 inches from fully depressed. But it shouldnt be that, as I can nail all the other shifts. If its the sync rings, how much is that going to cost to repair?

Eh, depends. You might just want to hunt down a T-5 in good shape from the corral classifieds and go with that. Either a fox trans and pay to have your input shaft swapped in or if you can find a SN95 specific one more power to you.

I would not pay to have a T-5 rebuilt when there are a TON of used ones in good shape all over the place. Or you could just upgrade to a TKO or a T-56 if you have the money.

I never blew a t-5 up but when I pulled mine, it WAS beginning to "chop" on the 1-2 shift. HOWEVER, it sounds like your clutch is ALSO engaging too soon ....so in turn engaging TOO SOON off the floor. The cable may have stretched. What is the cable, quadrant setup? If it is stock, reach down and grab the pedal, pull up on it firmly. It may or may not "pop." If it does, pump it a few times and try that. That is the self adjusting setup in the factory quadrant. it helps sometimes...not always though. I'd reccomend the cheapest first....a quad and firewall adjuster. Unless you cable is fraying, you're fine in that department. If that doesn't fix it, you maybe in the market for a new tranny.

could be a variety of things that everyones already suggested.. mis-adjusted cable, bad clutch itself, dieing syncro, ect ect.. but ill tell ya one thing... i used to have the same problem getting into 2nd myself when speed shifting sometimes.. short throw definitely helped me out... but id try doing what ryclef suggested first and checking to make sure the cables done right first...

Almost everytime I drive I use the push up on pedal trick to adjust the cable. Ia'l be sitting at a red light and he clutch literally engages .5-1 inch from fully depressed. I do that click thing and it brings it to the 2-3" area. It's the stock quadrant, and the car has nearly 207k. How much will one of these kits cost and how hard is it to install?

Just make sure to use an OEM cable, for some reason aftermarket companies can't make a cable that doesn't suck. An OEM cable with an aftermarket quadrant and firewall adjuster is the way to go.
