i just bought a 2000 gt with 3.73s posi, line lock mac diff cover, full stainless exhaust and k&n CAI...

my question is, which way will the speedo be wrong? i brought it home today, and doing 55, alot of people were actualy tailgating me...

how big is the difference between my speed, and what the speedo is showing, and what direction would the difference be going?

thanks.

my 2000 gt has 373's as well its abou 10-15mph dif up to about 80 then its like 20-25 when u get about 115... if your speedo say ur doing 55 your probably doing 40-45mph when your speedo says 130 it really means like 105ish... u get used to it after a while

Same thing happend to me when i bought my 96, best bet is to get borrow a gps and figure it out that way. to correct i beleive a 23 speedo gear along with a 6 tooth drive gear. Probably easyier to install dm speed calibrator

You can do a gear swap in the trans and fix the problem for about $15-$20.

the highest gear they sell (that ive seen, and i searched for months when i did my 4.10s) was a 3.55 speedo gear.

obviously you can use this gear, but it will still be slightly off.

Unless they don't make it any more, you are wrong chris. That is how I fixed my speedo when I did the gear swap. I bought it from a Ford Dealer.

Ford did offer a 3.73 gear option in the 7.5 rear end V6. I need to do some searching and find out which little gear this is. That should fix the problem. Also the link i posted was directly from Ford. That little red gear from the calculations they did should get you within 2-3 mph.

thanks guys, if i take it to ford, will they be able to do it? and what would they charge? i realy dont have time to work on my own cars any more... plus my poil pressure guage is freaking out... this morning when i started it up, it went to the middle, then imeadietly droped down to 0... i know its takes a little longer then that for it to lose pressure so i reved it up, and it imedietly jumped back up, and stayed so its not the oil pump...

It is not a hard swap. If you did it, it would take about an hour. If they do it, it will be less. But they probably have a 1hr min. labor charge.

a hand-held or a SpeedCal is the way to go. It's a little more on the expensive route, but you install it once, and you're done. You dont have to worry about aftermarket gears getting shredded, and if for whatever reason you change your rear gears again, you dont have to go changing out a speedo gear. It wouldn't hurt to have a hand-held tuner anyway though, so if you're really just trying to make this a one-time expense, I'd just hold out for the tuner.
