Ok, I've been on different Mustang forums and everyone gives me a different answer as to what gears to put in my 95 Cobra. So what I want to know is what are the pros and cons of 3.73's vs. 4.10's?

I think this might spark another debate.... But I put 4.10's in my 95 GT..... And to be honest I love em. BUT, this all depends on what you like. Many people go 3.73's because the stock t-5 tranny has a horrible overdrive so with 4.10's on the freeway, going 80, your at about 3000 RPM's. Now as for gas mileage, you might see a 1 MPG difference... maybe. What I do know is 4.10's bite hard, and perhaps may be too hard if you are going to throw a lot of power into your ride. I saved my set of 3.55's in case I get blown and hit some more power. But anyway, long story short, 3.73 great gear, 4.10's great gear if you arnt thinkin of huge power yet. Oh and dont forget about Motive's 3.90's.

So from I've read so far, I'm looking at either 3.73's or 3.90's. So what are the pros and cons with these two?

Do you do alot of highway driving? 3.73s

Do you have nitrous? 3.73s

Do you not have nitrous and drive in the city most of the time? 4.10s

Do you have sticky tires and want the most out of off the line power? 4.10s

Do you want to race mostly from a roll? 3.73s

Honestly I would just go with 4.10s first. Gears don't cost alot and aren't expensive to put in so if they are too much for your likings you atleast know 3.73s will be perfect.

i dont see why people complain about mpg with 4.10s you want good gas miliage get a jetta or something...

you mentioned on another site you havent put many miles on your car even if you do 4.10's are a great gear with nitrous its a blast! acceleration is phenominal...so on the highway your rolling at like 2700 rpm or closer to 3000 rpms....so?

i feel so limited with 3.73's and it feels like im not hitting my powerband right if your considering lower that a 4.10 i would maybe go down to a 3.90

either of the two you will be happy.. any higher gear ratio vs stock gears will put a smile on your face while you drive. i have 3.73 and the day i got them i didn't want to stop driving. also i still wanted daily drivability and some highway fun. but if u want more ballsy get go speed then go for the 4.10.

Well I decided on 3:73's because I want more acceleration than the stock gears...I travel a lot on the freeway so I also want the advantage of a somewhat hiway gear, & if I don't HAVE to throw money away on gas I won't...I'll never be the fastest but I don't want to always be embarrassed either. I've thought long & hard & the 3:73's do it for me, more dig, better acceleration, more fun to drive and shouldn't be too bad on the freeway.

My daughter has the Jetta (Turbo model) & it pulls! LOL...still wouldn't have it.

I had FRPP 4.10's in my 96 GT and I got really bad MPG.
I did a mix of highway and street driving. In my opnion
FRPP 3.55's or 3.73's are the way to go because 5.0's
already have torque. The FRPP 3.55's or 3.73's also are
a great highway gear and will get you better MPG.
If you don't care about your gasoline mileage than get
FRPP 4.10's.
FRPP 3.73's FTW!!

I have 4.10's and my gas mileage doesn't suck... I think if he is even close to stock, 3.55's are a waste of time. The difference between 3.73's and 4.10's in gas mileage terms in minimal...

i have 3.73 and i love them but i really want 4.10 but ive researched and alot of people have said 4.10 on a stock 5.0 is overkill....input???? i may upgrade...and i really want them because my car has prostars and M/T and also i do half and half highway/in town and there isnt much diff in the gas milage...if i wanted 40 mpg id get a honda...

3.55's are a waste of time. i dont know what the previous owner was thinking when he ordered those. im putting on an s-trim now so maybe the 3.55's will be ok.

someone said gear installs aren't that expensive. i dont know how much it is around you but for me it would be around 500 bucks.

Bullshit......Are you serious? You can get a gear change around here all day for $100 on a solid axle car.

I'm gonna go with 355's because I like have a first gear. 410's with an auto is a different story but if you have a 5 spd and don't mind sacrificing 1st, go with 373's.
