Just gonna post up some info for you guys that want to go 31spline carrier and axles.
94-98
you an use the explorer carrier 31 spline usually trac lock with 3.73 or 4.10 gear set. BUT axles are a different story the closest side to the mustang axle length in the explorer rear end is the drivers side which is 9/16in to long. So pretty much can't use the axles of two drivers side axles without some fab work. So aftermarket axles are in order
99-04
You can do the same with the carrier as with the 94-98 model mustangs. The axles on the other hand are a different story,the drivers side axle on the explorer rear is only an 1/8in diff and pretty much is a shoe in if you get two drivers side axles from the explorers and put them in the 99-04. the caliper brackets should take up the 1/8in diff but if you are like me and would want to do it right I would just mill 1/8in off of each side of the caliper brackets.
With all that being said you can put a 99-04 housing in the 94-98 if you don't mind the width difference and do like you would for the 99-04 rear end. another option is you can get some 9in axles that are close to the mustang axle length you need for your application. Then you or get someone to weld some 9in mounting flanges for the 9in axles on your 8.8 housing and then you have also done ac-clip elimination at the same time.
