So i'm looking at buying some 17x10.5 cobra R's and wondering if anyone knows If a 315/35-17 Nitto 555R drag radial will fit good on my car... My car is not lowered so I'm hoping to maybe just flip the quad shock and not need to mess with the fender lips. Car still has stock brakes. I'v heard of diff tires not fitting the same as another brand tire of the same size. Is this true? Thanks for any help.

It SHOULD fit. Might need a bit of massaging with a hammer on the inner well. Sometimes they fit and sometimes they rub. Honestly its a crap shoot.

my roomate has 315/35/17 Sumitumos (not DR) and they clear everything, even
quadshocks on his 94 cobra, lowered with tokico shocks with eibach pro kit.
then i have 315/30/18 BFGoodrich drags and they wouldnt clear my inner
fenderwells, and would rub on my fender lip (no quadshocks).. so different
tires fit different ways.

Doesn't make any difference, it's still the same diameter tire.

Thats the theory at least...but different tires fit differently from different manufacturers. The size of the rim, changes the size of the sidewall, which will affect the section width of the tire...it DOES make a difference. Not all tires are created equal....

That's true, it helps to compare the same tire. Being the same width and same diameter tire it should be pretty close, I think the offset of the rim would have more effect on the fitment than the tires.

The offset of the wheel im looking at is +27mm with a 6.83 BS... Anyone know where I can find a decent tire in a 315 that is not a Drag radial?? and also will a 295 or 285 fit a rim that is 10.5?

Thanks for that input. I'm hoping to tuck these 315 Drags under there without a headache.

BFG and Mickey Thompson are the only true 315. The Nitto's run so narrow you can run them on a 9in wheel.

Get ya some BFG's then do what i did, remove or flip the quad shock, throw on the tires and wheels. Drive around the block slowly, pull back in the drive way, take off the wheels and tires, and where ever you see rub marks or shiney marks take a hammer to that spot.

They will fit fine.

every time i see a pic of 315 BFG Drag radials i start drooling, i wish they werent so GD expensive in 18s. Nittos do run narrow but the only other ecomical choice i think for 315s on a 17" rim are the Sumitomos, which blow ass.
