hey guys as the title states i want to put a new motor in and my little 302 just died so i need some opinions. i have a turbo kit on the 5.0 with a single 70mm unit. However i also have a like 3 nitrous solenoids and 2 nitrous bottle in the trunk and i'm undecided as to what to do.

1- my budget is around 3000 dollars.
2- i need a new clutch with the new motor.

Basically i can go with a 351 swap and sell my eddy rpm heads and systemax intake manifold to make up for some cash needed later on for the 351 swap. I'm thinking of getting an engine out of an f150 97 or so and tearing it down and installing new heads, intake and cam.

Here is the main question i want to reach a 400 whp goal on the motor.
HOW CAN I ACHIEVE THIS?

suggest me a set up that will make this kind of power while using all stock bottom end components. only mods would be heads cam and intake...then after that i could throw in the nitrous.
I need suggestions.....
I realized that i don't want another 302 stock block that i could destroy with the power adders i have in hand and a stroker is out of the equation due to money constraints.....

thanks for your time.

Then your not going to get what you want. You can't say..

"I have $3000, want 400HP, don't want a stock block, might want a 351."

Cheap and Fast don't usually work well together. $3000 can get you 400HP...but you don't want a stock block. 351 and $3000....forget about it, not going to happen.

You want to make 400HP on motor.

0 balance 347 kit 11:1 compression

Holley Systemax II Intake
Custom solid roller
AFR 185/205

Your def gonna have to reuse shiat if ~$3000 is your budget. If you have to, shortblock first.. nice cam.. THEN worry about the heads if you have the money.. the less parts you have to buy the better.. hitting 400 rwhp for 3k is going to be hard as **** without re using some stuff.

ok .... Let me rephrase..... Is it possible to hit 400whp out of a stock bottom ended 351??
around here a 351 fully assembled is around 600bucks used.
i can get eddy victor jr heads for around 900 bucks new.
a victor jr intake manifold for around 400.
headers $350 long tubes
clutch $400
custom cam $350
X pipe $130

thats $3130. Will this combo make 400hp?
or i could just swap my blown 5.0 for another factory 5.0 for 400 bucks and give it enough boost to crack it in half...
any ideas now?

The 351 is gonna take more than that to do it right.

Upwards of 6,000 if not more.

What about:

rings
bearings
fasteners
lifters
retainers
gaskets
oil
coolant
flywheel (your 50z one won't work)
balancer (your 50 oz one won't work)
distributor
oil pan

Whenever we give you tech advice, you usually just tell us we're all wrong and you're the expert anyway - so I don't really see the point here. Plus you seem to have a different combo every time you post here. First you had a turbo, then sold it and got spray, then a stroker, now a turbo AND nitrous, and it keeps coming...

If you can be very ballsy and find a way to get a 460 in the car you can just spend around 2 grand and have a stock motor pushing 400 hp at the crank but the t5 will not handle it.

Swapping a big block into a Mustang is not a walk in the park.

Exactly why i said Ballsy. I would attempt it if i had time to have my Stang down and also had a welder and all the fabrication tools to do it :)

Also, I don't know any stock big blocks that make 400 horsepower. Most of the are pig truck motors made for towing.

That not's a stock motor. It's got a new cam, new intake, new valvesprings, aftermarket distributor, no accessories, etc...

Also, everything is always cheaper for them because they have one of the most complete shops I've ever seen with every tool imaginable. Most folks (me included) aren't that well-equipped.

I agree but a resonable budget could have him a nice starting point

Yep. Still, the cost of swapping the big block really wouldn't make it worth it. You could have a 347 make similar power once it was all said and done.
