I'm thinking if my plan is to daily my car I should ditch the 4.10 gears and put in 3.55 gears instead and rebuild my rear end while I'm at it because I can still do the occasional run down the 1/4 mile without having to start in 2nd gear

Why the swap? 4.10's too annoying on the street (I assume 1st gear is useless)? Looking for more MPG?

Yeah it's either going to be 3.55 or 3.73 because first gear is non existent and a pain in the ass

Also the car is getting half of the fuel economy of my pickup

Well, if you want better fuel economy and your car has a lot of low end grunt, go with the 3.55. Personally, I think you'll be happy with the 3.55. I have that in my car, with a stock 302 motor (~180whp) and honestly, it drives fine. Which means if you have even more power, you should be happy. The more power you have, the more concerned I would be with the 3.73. And by power, I mean low end torque.

I went from stock 3.27 to 4.10 and I feel you on the Truck Granny Gear 1st gear. I also do not like the fuel economy( went from 25ish to 20ish). I just had my 3.27 rear end rebuilt and will be putting it back in my 96 GT.

I have a few upgrades and 3.73's are not completely out of the equation but the 3.55's would give me more of that drivability back

I also drive like a grandma. Since driving on a road course, I drive the speed limit on the streets as I no longer get any kicks from driving the straight lines of Arizona.
