I m trying to finish up my P.I. head swap, and I have a question for the forum. Well I got the heads on, and lined up the cam gears perfect. On the chains there are marks on opposite sides, and the manual says those marks go on top of the marks on cam gears. Fine that is perfect, and I checked them five times to make sure it was right. Then it says to rotate the motor by hand to make sure theres no interference, done that. The question I have is after rotating it over and over, and then bringing it to top dead center, the marks on the chains are no longer on the cam gears like when I started. It may sound dumb but they seem to be moving a couple a teeth over every time I rotate the engine by hand. Maybe Its normal, but I just want to make sure this is perfect, I have alot of money in this project. I guess I'm just hoping someone else has done this job and noticed this. :help2:

Thats normal. Your just seeing the gear ratios between the two gears and the chain. It takes a lot of rotations to bring the chain bright links and gear dimples in alignment with eachother. If you have timed them right in the beginning you should be fine. Are you running the stock PI cams?

No Its ported and polished p.i. heads, comp cams 262, springs, headers, cold air, sct tuner and getting installed at one time. It should be a noticeable improvement over what I had before. I think about 130 horse increase what do you think?

mine did the same thing when i did my pi cam/intake swap. i think thats normal. what really freaked me out was how the tensioners woulld engage/disengage as i would rotate it over manually, thought it was jumping time. i figured it was due to no oil pressure to the tensioners. bluestang's got a point about how the circumference of the cam gears/ crank sprokets are different sizes, and chain/gear/sproket alignment will appear to be off. don't take my word though, i've got a misfire on #6 cyl....but i think it's a clogged injector. i'm gonna post my quandry next. we'll see.
