I have a chance to buy a cheap P.I. 5.4 motor from a '02 f-250 hd. for $300 dollars. Question is how hard is the swap and is it worth doing?

I thought long and hard on the 5.4 thing, IMO its not worth it until some intakes and long tubes are available.

Somebody makes adapter plates to run a 4.6 intake on the 5.4, I think its Livernois but I can't remember.

are there any performance parts for the 5.4? ide figure its a good swap just because its a bigger block, but if parts are scarce then its not a good deal.

on another note i "think" they still make more power stock than a PI swapped 4.6. so if your getting it cheap and its in good condition, you should consider it.

Yes, I know you can use the a PI mustang intake on the 5.4l with adapter plates. Problem is, from what I have seen it really kills the potential power. Also consider the added weight.

As far as exhaust goes, you could do midlengths with a slightly modified h/x pipe, the adaptor plates won't hurt the power. I am pretty sure that MMR sells them. There is no replacement for displacement. Also a better set of cams would really help it out as far as power band. Just a few suggestions. :thumb:

HPS was working on a 5.4 2V intake but i'm not sure if its done yet.

I thought about this swap a few years ago but the added TQ didn't sway me because its heavier on the nose and the HP wasn't much more and the cost was a lot (its cheaper now) so i went with an aluminum 2V setup. If i could get a 5.4 Aluminum Block for under 3.8 million dollars then i would rethink the swap.

So no one manufactures long tubes for the 5.4? Why don't the 4.6 fit, same heads, does it have a different height? I read the threads but couldn't find anything. I wish they'd make the 5.4 intake now!

I don't think it's peak numbers you go after on a 5.4, it the torque curve, it's there when you need.

I know. I have my share of posts in the 5.4 thread and I was extremely close to buying a 5.4 to build but without intakes and long tubes I decided against it.

HPS unless something happend is coming out with the 5.4 intake, also there are people that will moddify a set of headers to work. I think they mentioned that on the thread. I know a couple people on the main sight that has like a 50+ page thread about it that has done the 4.6 modified long tubes

I'll put it this way, from the dyno graphs i've seen with just the adapter plates, long tubes, and a custom cam... well it was bananaS dude. Plus i've seen a stock 5.4 swapped coupe with an auto kill a 96-98 cobra with long tubes and a tune.

You won't have crazy numbers but the tq on the street will make it a killer street car. If you don't get it and the motor is around NC let me know I'll pick it up b/c its either a 5.4 or a 4.6 DOHC for me ;)

wow, that intake and heads probably cost twice what my car is worth :(

Twice as much as that car is worth too, but if it's about what it's worth, leave em stock, lol.

yea i know. I just don't think i could bring myself to spend that kinda money on a set of heads and intake... what is your guess on the price? I'd say at least 4G's for the heads... and maybe 3-5G's for the intake... not to mention ... if i'm correct? didn't the 5.4 00'rs have an aluminum block with forged internals? Only in my wet dreams am i driving that thing.
