Hello everyone, my question is that one of my local junkyards has a 90's efi 351 from intake to pan. they want 400 for it, and i wanted to freshen up my 5.slow so was wondering if its a good price and if i should jump on it instead and have it freshened up? Any advice is great just want a fun reliable street car. thanks in advance

Do you know what year the engine is? If it's a full roller motor 400 isn't a terrible price but if it's seized up you could probably get it for cheaper. Just my .02

94 up is a good engine, however, they are not good out of the box. The compression is way too low, at 8.8, pistons are cast, blocks wear very quickly. So bank on a bore, new pistons, and a balancing of the assembly. The rods are decent with good arp rod bolts, and the crank will take a bunch of power too. Use main studs, and some arp head bolts. Be a very nice engine with some good heads and intake. The stock stuff isn't very good or able to be used in your mustang, as far as intake goes. The stock heads are too small for performance, remember, this was in a truck, not built for hp but for torque.

Wow thats good to hear. Im gonna head over later on and see what we can work out. Is there any tricks to check if its seized without me looking like a fool haha? ill probably put it aside for awhile and buy parts slowly but surely, how about 10:1 compression, afr 185's, and edelbrock rpm, and a little roller? i currently have an x-pipe and flowmaster dumps, can i use it on the 351? i might change it cause im getting a little annoyed of the drone, sometimes i dont even wanna drive it! thanks everyone, im starting to get excited

Why are you doing a 351 swap...don't get me wrong if that's what you wanna do - by all means. If you are doing it for power, you can make that power with a 302 block for probably half the price.

I see where your coming from, and it can be done with a 302. but i just want the added cubes and power in a not so radical package. I know its gonna take $ but im not gonna have it built in a week, it'll take time and im gonna do it right the first time around. Hopefully!

Good deal.

A good person to talk to is Paul. He has done a 418 and he might have done another 351 based motor.

What you might want to do is see if they would sell the engine as a short block or stipped down a lil to save more money. Because basically all you are going to use in end is the shortblock. Everything else would probably just get junked. Good luck with it, best thing to to is make a list/plan and stick to it. Otherwise it can spiral out of control very quickley.
Everyone wants more cubes

Either that or smoke signals, but i think a PM would be faster.. haha. j/k Good luck on the 351 build.. There are a few other members on
here who have 351W equiped Sn95s... I can't remember the name specifically, but "Venom351R" or something like that has a fun little
