I have seen an ad for an 8.8 Lincoln rear axle with 3.27 posi and disc brakes . Would the Lincoln 8.8 rear axle be the same as my 97 cobra rear axle?? Just curious

whats wrong with the one in your car? it already has 3.27 gears....

The lincoln axle (assuming its from a mark 8) is an IRS (independent rear suspension) and wont bolt up to your cobra....
If its from a town car (its a solid axle) it wont bolt up as the mount points for the control arms are in a different location.

only good thing about that axle over yours is the big vented rear disc brakes and the big calipers.
Now if the caliper mount bracket fits on your existing 8.8 in your cobra, thats a question im not positive on the answer about...

I was just curious how close it would be. I do not really need it, but had a chance to pick it up for cheap. But if it isnt even a close fit I am not bothering with it.

It will fit/bolt up! the Mark 7 is a fox chassis car... as is your cobra...so the rear end will bolt in... however, the overall length might be shorter, so the rear tires will sit a little more tucked in than stock....
