I have a 2003 3.8 convertible that I am building a motor for and I am not going to have a ton of power around 350 but I want to switch my rear end out for 8.8, my question is what mustang years will be a direct fit other then 99-04.thanks!

94-03 would bolt in the same. I think one is like an inch shorter maybe but other than that they are all the same.

94-98 rear end is about 3/4” shorter on both ends so the wheels will sit in even further. Unless you get some awesome wide wheels with the correct offset. Like evil said though, 94-04 will bolt in just the same.

What hat are you planning to build to get that 350 hp?

Okay thanks I'll probably get wide wheels so that works and originally I really wanted to do a 302 swap but cause I'm in NY there is no way to have it street legal.. so then I was debating a 4.6 swap or larger but it just didn't sit well with me I want something different not the same as everyone else so after watch some videos and talking to someone people I am building a 3.8 ik it won't be the fastest but it will be different there not nearly as many built 3.8s as 4.6s etc,
It will be N/A for right now until I figure what I want to do with it but I'll probably put a turbo on it. I just want to build it and customize it to me and be different, I'm a sheet metal fabricatior and welder so I will be doing a lot of custom interior and engine bay stuff as well as exhuast. Just a project that I can take my time with

Built 3.8's are super cool and relatively uncommon. Im definitely interested in seeing this unfold. Make sure you take pictures and keep us updated.

Talk to orange. He might sell you his supercharger that he built for his v6 if you wanted to go that route. Personally I like turbo’d better but it’s a thought.

I'm not ready to think about power adders yet so I don't want to waste his time, but I think I rather go turbo, I have a '17 Focus ST as a daily and I love the turbo i think it is a bit more of a mechanical advantage where as a supercharger you are useing power to make power.

Curious question would a 8.8 out of a expedition bolt in or would it be different? Just cause someone I know offered one for almost free

The expedition rear end wont bolt in. That truck uses rear leaf springs (I think), and the width is wrong.

But superchargers make an incredible sound!! And torque off idle is hard to beat.

Turbo’s make a pretty sweet sound too and if you select your turbo wisely then lag isn’t much of an issue.

Meh, I've had too many turbo cars to consider them cool anymore. The world of blowers is something else :p

Well on sound you got me I like supercharger whine better lol. But if I were to go super charger I want a roots style manifold mount not a procharger or side mount,. But I was thinking turbo just cause I heard alot of people say don't waste ryour time supercharging a 3.8 that turbo is the only worth while

Okay so i found it... And I freaking love it.
I still don't know what to do. But like I said it's a while before I worry about power adders but man oh man that looks sick and I love supercharger whine I just what's best for 3.8 because he had a 4.2 I want to stick with a 3.8 cause I don't want to deal with changeing over computers and or harnesses
