I don’t remember what year they switched to the split port intakes but if it was later than yours then you could also grab a setup from a super coupe. They are factory supercharged 3.8’s.

Or just custom build turbo when your ready.

Well I have a 2003 and I was probably going to use Motor from a 2002 because a junk yard friend has a coupe that has 3000 miles on it. And mine has 152,000 and then j was doing basically a power pack from super six

I'll probably end up Making my own turn kit since I really like the new turbo styles and how you can get almost no lag but ethier if I do go super charger. I could probably have a machinist I know make an adapter plate. But ifor right now I will build it as best as I can and then as time goes on I'll upgrade to forged internal and more and try to make it strong as possible

A 4.2 is just a big brother to a 3.8. They use the same heads and everything. All the sensors are the same. You can literally drop a 4.2 in and turn the key. It doesnt require any different harnesses or computers.

Really is it worth while to swap? Cause I was reading one fourm and a guy said you have to switch over a whole bunch of stuff. What's the benefit of it? Mostly Strength? Or power increase too cause someone told me it was not much of a power increase

You have to swap all the accessories and a few other things, Orange has it all lined out in his build. I think the biggest advantage to the 4.2 swap is the torque increase over the 3.8.

I'm alright if the tires stick out but my car is an 03 so it won't happen but ideally I'd like to get a pre 99 so I can stick some wide wheels under there

I’m in the opposite boat. I got the 03/04 irs which will be wider than my original sra so it will push my wider wheels and tires out. But I’m actually looking forward to a slightly wider stance.

Do you know what years f150 I can look into I'm trying to find a low mileage junkyard motor. I cannot find a short block really and the only things I can find are long blocks that are not in my price range

Ive got experience with th 4.2l. Look for an '02up. The earlier years had crack heads problems. Look into F150 and Econoline E150. There really will be no added benefit with the larger engine n/a, but that all chsnges when forced induced.

Thanks I really cant seem any with low miles. And I know for a fact it will be a while till I put a power adder on it because I am also in process of getting my '13 gt ready for twin turbo. So i think i am going to stick with a 3.8 and heads and a intake and cam etc from super six motorsports mainly because I have access to a very low mileage motor in great condition for very cheap it's just a car to play around with so it doesn't need to be a 10 sec car

I outlined how to do the 4.2 swap in my original build thread as well. It's very simple.

Your original question seems to be answered though lol

I'll check it out I probably won't be doing it unless I can easily find a short block or a low mileage junkyard motor but that is proveing to be difficult but I will still check it out thank you very much and also yeah lol I don't know how this always happens the thread never ends up where it started haha but I always am learning something here

Do you guys know of any companies where I can get a 4.2 short block? It doesn't have to be proformance block just something I can't find anything and I can't find a used motor that has less then like 60 thousand miles. I would like to stay under 1500 but I can go a little more. Any help is appreciated

Sure thing. Motors with 60k on them are nothing for a 3.8/4.2 block. I found the one I used for $50 because it had a blown head gasket.

Where are you located? I have an 8.8 limited slip rear out of my low mileage 98 GT that will be up for grabs soon.
