94 Cobra project

hey gang, new to the forums but not new to the sn95’s or Mustangs in general for that matter. I’ve owned 8 mustangs through the years but have been on a hiatus for quite some time. I have had several Fox bodies and 3 sn95’s. A red 94 cobra that I had when I was 21(I totaled it out....twice!) a 95 Cobra R and now another 94 Cobra that is going to be a father son project that will eventually turn into my sons car assuming he holds up his end of the deal with behavior and grades. He is 9 now so a lot of things can change between now and then. Especially knowing full and well that he is “my son”...lol!

I have been looking for a while now and was blown away at what had happened to the prices of Fox bodies and sn95 Cobras. After some looking I stumbled across a white 94 Cobra that started its life as a FoMoCo executive car for the first two years of its life then was sold to a single adult female in 96, driven for 13 years accumulating 87,000 miles then put into storage for exactly 10 years before being unearthed and put up for sale where I found it. My son Devin and I went to look at it and after a while and a few tears being shed by the owner we struck a deal. This car is by no means pristine or a cream puff. It is exactly what I said it was earlier, a father son “project”. It was only driven for one winter but the environment it was stored in was less than ideal so there is some underbody corrosion and oxidation on some of the hardware under the hood. Nothing that can’t be addressed over time.

My intentions for the car are to leave it somewhat stock (it is 99.9% unmolested now) with only a full exhaust with off road x pipe and 40 series Flowmasters, a set of 3:73 gears, a CAI and probably some under driven pulleys. I know how much he’ll i raised with 240hp back in the day and like I said, I cannot deny him....he is “my son” lol.

I was thinking about running a Marty report on the car because it is equipped fairly oddly for a Cobra. It is white with grey cloth interior and no Mach 460 sound. I guess I didn’t realize that Ford even made the Mach 460 sound an option in the Cobra? Does anyone have an idea how many might have been optioned this way?

It’s been quite some time since I have had my head under the hood of a 5.0 Windsor. Any tips, tricks or advice for “must do’s” other than the obvious for a car like this that has been sitting for 10 years?

Thanks in advance,

Junkman

A cobra with no leather or Mach??? I can’t say I’d ever heard of or seen anything like that. My 95 gt is fully loaded and basically has everything I’ve ever seen in any cobras over the years.

I’d be curious to see the numbers on cobras without all the bells and whistles

Thanks for the reply Evil, I have seen them with no leather and honestly no better than the quality of leather they used back then I would prefer cloth. Maybe I will just drop the $46 for a Marty report and find out just how many were equipped that way. Not that it would add any value or collectibility (yet) but it would be cool to know and a good talking point about the car.

I thought leather/mach was standard in the cobras myself.

It makes sense I guess. If your the guy who was looking at a cobra to buy new and new you were going to be building it for performance overall you didn’t need leather and a Mach.

Skid let us know what you find.

Problem is evil, this car isn’t my only vice. My real illness is collecting and restoring vintage Ski-Doo snowmobiles. They are like Gremlins if you feed them after midnight, they just keep multiplying! Luckily my wife is cool as shit. She’s doesn’t really care what I do?!

I ordered the Marti report. It says 10 days to 2 weeks for results so we shall see!

It’s funny you mentioned that cause I just talked to a guy the other day that has a good running sled for $500. Needs a starter but the pull start still fires it right up.

What’s two???

Anyways, where do you live that you can enjoy those??? Bomb has always made incredible sleds. I’m seriously considering getting that sled I mentioned for the price but I’ll have to drag it up to Michigan each winter to be able to use it.

Funny you say that. That’s how the whole thing got started....addiction.

I started riding sleds when I was 6. When I was 15 in 1992 I went to work as a mechanic for a local farmer who started a Ski-Doo dealership in his farm shop. I ate slept and breathed snowmobiles (still do). By 1997 not only were we the closest dealer to the equator we were also the number 1 dealer in the world for Ski-Doo and the number 1 dealer in Illinois for 3 years in a row. I then started grass dragging and that evolved into lake enduros which turned into sno-cross and after I got tired of getting hurt I switched to top speed running. About the time I built my last drag sled, a 1200cc 3cyl turbo charged 4 stroke that made around 400hp my wife got pregnant with twins. A few passes down the 1000’ long shaved ice track north of 130mph my mind shifted to “what if”??? I was confronted at one race by a guy that just had to have my improved stock 800 drag sled. I explained to him it was not for sale. He immediately counter offered with a trade for a limited production sled that I had always wanted as a kid but couldn’t afford. That’s where it all started. I sold the drag sleds before the twins were born and the rest is history. Once turned into two into three...etc. I may or may not have developed a drinking problem over the course of time as well. One day I woke up and had an epiphany after tying one on with my father in law and decided I was done. That will be 8 years ago this November and I haven’t looked back. I did however focus all of my extra time, energy and disposable income on my snowmobile collection as well as construction of my new museum last year. It’s been fun for sure.

I’m near Champaign Illinois, approximately 2 hours straight south of Chicago. If you need and sled help or advice, just holler!

And for the record I really don’t even ride much anymore. I along with a friend who is a fellow collector started a club several years ago and about all I get to do in my free time during the winter is help host/promote several vintage snowmobile events. My son has also taken to wrestling and I help coach. That being a sport that starts late fall and lasts through early spring it doesn’t leave much free time to ride. I’ve got arthritis pretty bad and getting tossed around like a rag doll on a sled doesn’t exactly help matters much either.

Gotta get this thread back on track....Devin and I went and picked the car up today. It was raining off and on so no busy work outside. We went ahead and pulled it in the shop to begin the detox and assessment process.

Holy shit does this thing smell bad. I would rather drive an outhouse that has been sitting in the sun all week at the county fair cross country than I would drive this thing around the block! The fact that the p/o smoked, had questionable hygiene and had dogs did not help matter much. Couple that with being stored somewhere that the humidity was 110% and it smells like complete butt fungus inside. Devin and I started with the interior. We vacuumed it out good and started in with upholstery cleaner followed by an evacuator. The water that came out of it looked like swamp mud. I think we are going to repeat the process with a different solution once the seats have dried out from this round. Does anyone have any internet or old wives tale tricks to get butt funk odor out of a cars interior?
