94 GT Auto Speed Cal - Abbott ERA problems

Hi all,

I have a 94 Mustang GT Vert Auto and have just installed 4.10 gears. I purchased a Abbott ERA speedo calibrator and installed it as the instructions state, while also using information from the other alternative units on the market in relation to positioning and wires etc.

Anyway, it's all installed but not working at all. I have no speedo with the device connected. If I bypass it the speedo works again, but obviously all my shifts are wrong etc so I need this unit working asap.

I tried several things that Abbott have since suggested, including using the other wires from the VSS and even switching polarity, but nothing works.

They now want me to position the unit closer to the ECU thinking that there may be a device inline causing problems. The car manual and my experience suggests there is nothing between the VSS and the ECU, so I don't think this is either worth it or of benefit.

I am open to any suggests or advice in getting this unit working.

Has anyone else had good or bad experiences with the Abbott unit on a 94/95 5.0 auto? Have anyone had any problems installing any other calibrator on a 94/95 5.0 auto?

Thanks in advance,

Mick

step 1. call them and see if you can return that POS.
step 2. buy speedo gear. i think you need this one but best to verify your tooth count yourself: http://www.americanmuscle.com/speedo-gear-20tooth-auto.html
step 3. install gear
step 4. enjoy a beer after a job well done.

Yeah, cheers for that. But sadly there is not a gear that is suitable for 4.10 gears in a 94 aode, so a calibrator is the only option.

The unit passes all the tests that the makers suggest trying, including holding the speedo needle at 55mph for 20 seconds etc, so they are as confused as me.

Anyone with any valid suggestions or experiences please?

Mick

Still seeking answers. The car has been sat there for months now due to this stupid fault and I'm a little fed up. Abbott now not responding to my enquiries, so starting to think I'm going to take a loss on this one and have to buy another calibrator from a more reputable company.

It may only be $100, but add the shipping to the UK and all the tax etc and it gets close to $200. So I'm obviously not happy wasting that again. Maybe I should have stuck with 3.73's so I could just use a standard gear for the speedo drive.

Ford Speed dial is the only way to go, I fought with my speedcal long enough to be tempted to just run with a speedo that was off

i thought i replied to this but i guess not. you just have to get a matching drive gear AND a speedo gear to get you to 4.10s.
