ok, so i got a timing light and there is only one timing mark. not even a number all it is, is a hatch mark. anyone know how i cant tell where 10 is? and am i suppose to time it to 10 with the spout unplugged? b/c it almost seems the spout automatically sets the timing 10 degrees BTDC. but i have no clue!

With the spout out there is no ECU advance so it's whatever it's set at. Spec is 10*. But how do you know that its 10* if you can't read any markings on the HB?

my ignition cables are ran like shit and they're rubbing and are close to things so there is alot of arching going on

Your wires should be separated and not directly touching each other. Its important to make sure that wire # 5 and #6 are not touching each other, route those ones away from each other as much as possible.

its stock and not aftermarket and thats exactly my question. there is only one mark on it. thats what i been using. i can only assume that its 0 but im not certain. i looked for some numbers on it but its not there. my dad was telling me about a timing light where i can set the gun to 10 and that way i wont have to use the non existing numbers. anyone know how much those go for? and ill make sure #5 and #6 dont touch. also thoughts on a new starter?

If your not even sure what the mark is then you cant be sure the timing is even right. Timing lights are sold everywhere all depends on how much you want to spend. Most auto part stores carry them

if its the stock one you prob need to get under the car and clean it up a bit.. a lil bit of sanding bet the numbers become visible again.. depending on brand the go up in price.. yes there is a gun it usually has a small display or nob you can set..

Another trick to making timing easier is once you have it all cleaned up get some white paint and brush it on the area with the numbers. Before it dries take a paper towel or something and wipe it all off, this will leave paint down in the recesses so once it dries seeing the numbers will be easy.
