Hey guys, let me annoy you with questions you already heard 100 times before :laughing4:
I am really new in the V8 RWD world, only drove FWD cars before, so i have couple of questions about Gears. I searched in several stang forums but didnt find exact answers to my situation.

I want to change my looooong 2.73s gears with 4.10s, i know Tire size etc. affects this aswell, my plans are to throw 275/35/18" (Saleens) on the stang and probably H/C/I. I am concerned about the Top Speed aswell, you know i live in Germany, on our Autobahns the speeds are a bit higher and at some spots i have no limit. First of all i do NOT beat the hell out of my stang on the autobahn, but sometimes in the night on a open free road i like to push it alittle, not every time though.

I heard about situations people gained Top Speed because the Engine where at a better rpm at speeds than before because the engine couldnt produce enough power at the same speed with higher Gears to fight against air drag.

My car is equipped with the 5.0 and a Automatic overdrive tranny (no daily driver), plans are like mentioned 275/35/18 Wheels, H/C/I and Gears. Would 4.10s gears the best choice? And what happen EXACTLY with my Top Speed? What 0-60 and 1/4 Mile Gains can i expect from a 2.73. to 4.10 Swap?

4.10 are good for your autotranny, but take in account that we pay ridiculous amounts of money for installation. There seem to be a few shops in Germany that can tackle this job, but count on 450 euro just for labour.

255/50 16 are on it now, the previous owner put those tires on.

Thanks for the suggestions, already thought about to leave 255s at the front and 275 at the rear.

I asked a shop near me and he said 300 - 400 bucks for labour but i have to bring the parts (Ring/Pinion and Bearings)
What happens with the Top Speed after 4.10s with the auto tranny?

Thats why i bought a full axle from Summit and fitted it myself, it worked out cheaper. :)

yeah I've found a shop that will be a little cheaper then the 500 euro I got quoted.. but they're used to skylines and honda's n stuff.

Heh, 4.10s with a 5.0 on das Autobahn! Top speed will be severely limited.

Bull crap, I run 275/35r18 all around and it drives fine. At full lock it rubs the front sway bar a bit, but not bad at all...

3.73s on the autobahn, 4.10s would leave you revving high and moving slower than you probably want. IMO

I've been 113 in my manual stang with some life left and I have 4.10s... Just how fast are you wanting to go? I know my car is scary as hell at those speeds. I cant imagine doing that on a curvy road with other people....

I've been 137 in mine and im running 3.73's. Wasnt scary actually... but that was in a straight line.

who cares about top end, it's how fast you get there that matters. I've lived 5 miles from the german autobahns for 6 years and I've only been there like 3 times.. twice with the Probe and once with a friends M3.. It gets boring.

Mine was ina straight line on a road beside the interstate. My car is justa POS though. I don't like doing it. I can imagine the engine going kabloooie.

You are 100% right with that, acceleration FTW
I dont have much experience with Gears because i am new in the RWD V8 World, just dont want to top out at 100 mph :D Thats why i am asking.

Is it true that the AODE Tranny wont shift in the 4. Gear (Overdrive gear) at WOT ??
