hey guys I've got a 95 mustang gt 5.0 with minor boltons. i recently relocated my battery to the trunk and now it will crank for about 2 seconds and ignition will completely shut off as I continue to crank. I will go to crank it again and it'll do the same thing, its just about to fire, but then ignition will completely cut off. I pulled the plugs and the motor will crank for as long as I hold the ignition on. anyone have any ideas of what it could be ? thanks a lot guys !

Make sure the battery's gotta good charge on it . How did you wire it after relocating to the trunk

Did you use a kit? Or did you get your own stuff?

What gauge wire? And it did start and run with the battery in the stock location before the relocation?

Probably weak from either too small of wire. My guess anyway.

you think its under too much load when the plugs are in ?

From the replies it's not clear whether the ignition actually shuts off (as you stated) or the engine just stops cranking. If it's the later it could be either a battery or cable issue. With the plugs removed you are definitely reducing the cranking amp load.

The starter should be able to handle it, that's what it's built for. But if the gauge of wire is too small there will be a voltage drop, and it may not have the juice. Anyway, what size wire did you use for the relocation? Was it in a kit? Is it old speaker wire?

Im not sure about what gauge wire it is but its a brand new battery wire meant for bmws with battery's mounted in the trunk as well. Im also thinking.. Could it be the battery being to small ? Its a diehard stock replacement thats about 6 months old. Had no problems with it when it was mounted in the engine bay

I thought the positive wire coming from the battery had to go straight to the starter and from the starter to the fuse box, that's how I wired mine and I haven't had a problem with starting or charging

Ill post pictures when i get home but this exactly how i have it wired up. Ive got one positive wire from the starter going into the fuse box. Then i have another positive going from the battery in the trunk back to the fuse box. They're separate wires but when i bolt them into the fuse box they're touching. And I've got the negative from the trunk grounded on the engine block in the stock place along with the chassis ground in the stock place too.

alrite so I re-routed all the positive and neg. cables back to stock. im still having problems. the only wire I didn't hook up was the negative battery ground for the wire coming out of the fuse box but its also on a chassis ground. is that a big deal ? and I haven't connected it because I cut it for some reason.

Did you make sure the series was complete like the alt and starter and connected to the fuse box and so forth...I'll look for a diagram

You prob left something unplugged. .
I would go from battery to the starter. Make sure you have good grounds.
Engine block had to be grounded somewhere.
