95 Axles and Abuse?

How tough are the axles in my '95 GT? About to be in the rear for a ring and pinion and was pondering an upgrade. It will be seeing lots and lots of nitroused launches on slicks but it is an automatic car.

Full weight car, spray, slicks... It's not a bad idea. That said, since it's so easy to do you could always consider just waiting until (if) you break one. They're pretty tough. I've seen some pretty nasty cars launching on factory axles. The automatic is so much nicer to them than a stick.

I had over 60 passes 5500 clutch dumps on 96 gt axles with 300+ hp/tq 8.5 slicks and never broke one. Just gotta make sure something is weaker then the axles and they will never break. They do break when people have an over clutched car and slicks..

I would upgrade just for peace of mind, but I like driving my car home after the track. If I towed it then it wouldn't be as big of a deal to me.

What rear end setup are you running? Detroit locker or?

I know of a guy running 10.20's on N20 with a stock rear axle, leaving on the transbrake sometimes. hasnt broke yet, but the limited slip doesnt like it. I road course mine, and im sure its overheated once or twice, and I havent broken anything either.

pretty tough axle, theres a reason most of the XJ jeep Cherokee dudes swap them in.

I'm running a 31 spline diff out of an '03 Cobra and Moser 31 spline axles. After I saw my friend snap his axle in his intake/exhaust '03 GT with nothing but Nitto drag radials I got paranoid and went 31 spline when I did my gears.
